Remakes......love 'em Or Leave Em? - knewby - 11-09-2007 Remakes are going nowhere we all know. I'm not really against them per say, as we'd never have gotten such great films as Carpenter's Thing and the Fly. I just got finished watching two big Hollywood remakes of classic horror films. The Hitcher and Black Christmas. I dearly love both original films and went into viewing the remakes with an open mind. Black Christmas 06 was a good slasher movie with some nasty gore and it actually tried to do something different with the plot instead of simply retreading old ground. Very fun to me....now The Hitcher remake was a complete and utter waste of time. It was almost a carbon copy of the original. Basically scene for scene and nothing new/and or original added to the mix......And now I read that Rob Zombie is redoing CHUD.....lol.........................Larry Remakes......love 'em Or Leave Em? - SuperDanDrista - 11-09-2007 I generally don't like them...I think that came to the end with Halloween as I think it's an abomination. My favorite remake though is the Blob with Kevin Dillon..That movie is kick ass all around. Remakes......love 'em Or Leave Em? - knewby - 11-09-2007 I forgot about the Blob. That was one of my favorite 80's movies. Great gore/monster effects too. The Hills Have Eyes remake was badass too I thought. Remakes......love 'em Or Leave Em? - shadowmyst - 11-09-2007 I liked Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, although I never saw the original so I guess that doesn't really count. I hear New Line is making a Friday the 13 remake and a Nightmare on Elm St prequel to better explain Fred's origins, both are suppose to be released in 09 apparently. Remakes......love 'em Or Leave Em? - IbDaToNeGuY - 11-09-2007 The Blob is one of the best remakes period . plus it has Shawnee Smith which is sooooo HOOOOOOTTTTTTTTT . i remember watching her in Summer School and Who's Harry Crumb lol . but yeah it really depends on how the remake movies are made . yeah it can have some good points in it but no matter what they do , it'll never be as good or close to the original . IMO Hollywood is using way too much CGI in thier movies and that's what ruins it for me . i can understand some things may need it like a background that is just impossible but when you can still have an FX company make it then do that as it makes the movie look alot better . CGI is crap and if it doesn't stop with the rate tehy are going then all these great amazing artists that we all know of will be out of a job . mike, Remakes......love 'em Or Leave Em? - D-bach - 11-09-2007 for the most part remakes and prequels suck...theres always a few exceptions, when theres good writing and directing.... but dman hollywood must not a have a creative bone in its body, they just keep tossing out these rehashes of classic films or prequels when theres no need for one instead of giving talented people a shot at the big time with fresh ideas and original scripts...and what does the american public do? they eat it up and forget the originals and classics even exist. thanks for the decade of crap movies hollywood. Remakes......love 'em Or Leave Em? - knewby - 11-09-2007 Which is why I can't figure out why so many people hate on Eli Roth. Cabin Fever and the Hostel movies were at least original movies and not remakes. Plus he shows a genuine enthusiasm for the genre. I consider Cabin Fever one of my favorite movies of the last ten years...seriously. Remakes......love 'em Or Leave Em? - JOEY - 11-09-2007 I've liked alot of the remakes I've seen. Seems alot of people go into seeing one w/o an open mind and decide before viewing that it will suck. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. I don't see how they take anything away from the original. If you loved the original, why would a remake ruin it? And yes Eli Roth is awesome!!! Cabin Fever was crazy. Pancakes! lol Remakes......love 'em Or Leave Em? - necrolover - 11-09-2007 Remakes don't really bother me. They will either improve the film or make you appreciate the original more. The best example of that to me is Halloween. Made me appreciate the original 100 times more. I thought the Hills, TCM, and Dawn remakes were all great. The Thing, The Fly, The Blob and Night of the Living Dead were awesome older remakes as well. Thanks for defending Eli Larry. I am a huge Roth fan he can write circles around most horror writers. I am interested to see what Rob does with CHUD. I think it is more his style of flick. Remakes......love 'em Or Leave Em? - knewby - 11-09-2007 In every interview I've seen with Eli he comes across like a huge FAN of horror first and seems to be genuinely thrilled to be making horror films. And whether or not you like his movies you can at least appreciate what he's trying to do...make fun, gory, scary movies...............................Larry |
