That Hatchet was, well, pretty damn bad?I'll say this, great gore, great makeup effects, with an awesome charector played by Hodder, and even a cameo from Robert Englund and Tony Todd..but was it REALLY oldschool american horror, as it was taglined?in this viewers eyes,NO WAY.Never was I so genuinley annoyed by a cast, nobody was likeable..not one person..I expected the people to help fight Crowley would be Englund and Todd, when I saw their names on the back of the dvd case. What I ended up getting was a buncha american pie rejects, wannabe WOOOing pornstars and some badass chick with a gun, I almost turned it off because the charector development was so horrible, I just wanted Crowley to step in and start offing everyone already..I dunno about you guys, but I knew about this movie YEARS ago and followed it's development,I was like 16 when I first found out about it...I just expected a far more badass film.

I agree with you mateI've waited a long time for it in the UK so in the end I ordered a copy from Germany. I wish I hadn't bothered <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"confused.gif\" /> It's one of those films that should, and could have been so much better but ending up being a let down.I also feel that these small cameos that actors keep making in this poor films are the only things that sell them.Roberts name should not be used so much with the film as he's in it for about 2 miniutes which is very miss leading. The biggest disapointment for me was how it ends <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/verymad.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":verymad:\" border=\"0\" alt=\"verymad.gif\" />

The problem with Hatchet, like many other modern horror movies, is the hype gets in the way. Hatchet was pure and simple....gory 80's style fun. People find it so easy to pick apart modern movies when in reality most of our beloved 80's movies sucked as much. The entire F13th series for example. Mostly very poorly made movies but, like Hatchet, I love 'em all to death. I see so many people who weren't even around in the 80's saying these movies aren't "old school"........................................Larry

I thought Hatchet was a lot of fun. Yes they hyped that thing like a Mike Tyson Fight, but the movie was not made to be taken as some Horror epic that will reset the grounds of Horror. Name a slasher movie that has (except for maniac) Even Adam Green said that him self. And plus i thought it was a great movie for a guys 1st major feature film. And when you hire horror icons like Robert Englund and Tony Todd.. they are not cheap. Hence why they have limited screen time. It was a low budget movie and im 100% positive over 3/4 of the budget went to the SPFX team and Kane Hodders Salary. Robert Englud was probably the same cost as Kane even though Kane was there for the whole shoot and Robert was there for one or two days. And if it was my first major feature film. i would advertise who is in my movie big time. It draws intrest. But as a freshman effort i thoguth Adam really delivered what he wanted to do... the movie was fun and goffy and had some decent gore scenes. But its good to see a original film (even though alot of scenes were pulled from other horror films IE the burning, pumpkinhead etc etc) But its nice to see fresh talent that is doing his own thing and not going the remake routejust my rantMatt

I get the whole,"80's slasher's were bad too" thing, don't get me wrong lol,of coarse they were,it might just be the fact that I just don't like most actors nowadays, and it's weird to say seeing as most of em are my generation, and just abit older then I'am,they still come off as tools to me..a bad horror cast aint what it used to be, it's gone from cheese,to just plain annoying.least in my eyes.

Who Else Thought.. - IbDaToNeGuY - 01-14-2008

i actually liked the movie . i couldn't wait to see it at the screening last nov. with hodder and Todd in the same room with me !!! only thing i didn't care for was the crowd laughing and talking through a good part of it so i wasn't able to hear all of the movie . but one thing that bothers me so much is that most of these films today are remakes and these kids today just love the remakes and don't even know it is one and when they find out that there was an original , they go and watch it and just tear it apart . i don't really think Hatchet was hyped up for the story all that much but mainly because you had kane hodder in it and playing the killer . if you wanna talk about a REAL CHEESEY movie , how about Cutting Class starring Brad Pitt of all people . now that was a real bore and that other dude with the black hair and bug eyes just got on my nerves . mike,

This movie was CRAP! I can see why the actual films produces said they wouldn’t put it out. Hey, believe me; I went in WANTING to like it. There was nothing redeemable about the movie. At least with a ‘Friday the 13th’ you can say…’cool music/make-up/location.’ Either they JUST ran out of cash or someone actually took the camera away and said ‘Stop filming this crappy movie!!’ and they left the ending like they did.

It seems as though horror just isnt original anymore. So instead of being original, many times directors just figure adding tons gore to the film will make it decent. And although a lot of gore is pleasing to us horror freaks, that doesnt necessarilly mean its a good film. But I must say, just because someone wasnt born in the 80's, doesnt mean they cant fully appreciate the genre of "old school "slasher" films. I mean, with some of the crap that is coming lately, what else do you expect the younger society of horror lovers to turn to?
