I Need You Guys To Give Me Some Mask Autograph Advice. - ZombieTom - 01-27-2008

I'm going to be at Monster Mania X and I'm bringing a few masks along to get signed, and I need your advice.First.I'm bringing my Gunner by Slasherhouse to get signed but do you think I should just get it signed by just Gunner or the whole TCM cast? Second.I'm bringing my Collegeville Clown costume to be signed by Daeg Faerch. Should I have him sign the box or the mask?<img src=\"http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii231/zombietom08/HPNX0235.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />

I would just get the Gunnar mask signed on the inside and only by him. The clown mask box I would get signed not the actual mask. But that's just me. Personally I'm not into getting masks signed. To each his own if it makes you happy do it.

To me its like catching a home run baseball. Then getting it signed by the hitter, then getting it signed by the whole team.Is the team too much?

I see nothing wrong with getting the whole cast to sign the mask. I plan on making the trip and will be bringing something for them all to sign as well..............................Larry

Getting a mask signed on the inside is cool but, I think having autographs all over a nice possibly expensive mask is to much. My brother in law got two of his masks signed at HorrorHound Weekend and he loves them. I do see what you are saying about the baseball getting signed but, you didn't pay hundreds of dollars for it.

I used to get hockey masks signed on the outside all the time, but the more I got into collecting, the less I liked auto's on the outside. And to be completely honest, unless its a personal liking, most of the time signatures dont up the value of a mask at all.

One thing you need to consider is how many signatures will cover the mask. If you're talking 10, that might look aesthetically awkward, you know? Especially with the curves and contours of a Gunnar mask. On a smooth hockey mask, a multitude of signatures (especially indifferent colors) might look great...but a Gunnar mask might only look good with 3 or 4 signatures. And on that note, the coolness of having multiple signatures might be surpassed if you choose Gunnar Hansen's signature and a randomized 2 or 3 other actors. (You know what I'm saying? It's almost like an all-or-nothing mentality on having any additional sigs other than Gunnar. You really have to weigh the importance of which actors you want signed. Generally, the more the better seems to work in the collecting industry, but if it looks too muddled a mask, it could just end up looking silly. And FYI - in my opinion, if you do just have Gunnar sign it...I would have him sign on the inside - as to not distort the original appearance of the mask.As for the Faerch mask.... Are you planning on displaying the mask perpetually inside the box?If so, have him sign the box, definitely. The mask is too small to have good signature.BUT.......if you can somehow convince that little turd to put on the mask for a picture with you, then I would have him sign the inside of the mask. Usually, actors are too boastful and proud to put on a fan mask at a convention, but this kid is new and probably cognizant to the fact that he'll never land another acting gig (thus essentially making this his 'bread and butter') and he'll probably put it on. I had Gunnar put on my TCM 1 mask by his own choice (I didn't even suggest it) and it made the resale value skyrocket. Let us know what you end up doing....

Personally, I would just have Gunnar sign the mask. He IS Leatherface.I also would in NO way have that kid sign the vintage collegeville, get something else. In my opinion you would be damaging a hard to find classic item with the writing. You are probably saying to yourself, I'll never sell these items but you should still consider someday you might and what would a buyer want. I have heard "never" alot is all I'm saying.
