Jason Hands/arms Part 7 In Progress - sirbrad - 08-14-2008

Well I got my practice in as shown in my other thread http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/index.php?sh...amp;hl=skeleton and learned a lot from that. Those arms fit too perfectly and were tough to get off because I had to stretch the latex some, which caused some cracks in the paint. I mixed some latex with the paint, but if you mix too much it lightens the brown color too much. I could have then added some black I guess, but I figure if they were slightly bigger I would not have that problem. Only if the latex is stressed does the paint crack. But I was very pleased overall with my first try.So I decided to cut these arms up and use them for parts possibly, because they were practice anyway, as I wanted to learn how to use the latex so I could make hands/arms out of the gloves I posted before. Which look like this:So I built up my mannequin arms with some newspaper and Saran wrap, and used masking tape to hold it in place. The paper does not conform to every space properly, but I am hoping it will get the job done. I would rather slightly too big than too small, as the latex shrinks down some. I will also leave a small top part uncoated as to allow some flexibility for the arm, and tried to measure it off so that I also leave the wrist uncovered so that it can move as well. I will also most likely leave the bottom of the hands uncoated for the same reasons so I can grip my axe that I remade, and wear cut out gloves. I made cut out gloves out of the regular leather type yellow gloves, but they are too stiff once painted to get my skeleton hands in quickly and easily, so I went with the dark brown softer ones which will save me some weathering being they are dark already. My New Blood remake is looking pretty bad-ass already, and I can't wait to finish it! Got the shins, knees and other parts done as well, but more on that later on. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /> But I thought I would just try to get the hands done. Another problem is how much skin to show. I figure if I am going to wear all that hot latex I sure as heck am going to show it! Lol. I had some cuts and smaller holes here and there, but just didn't show enough for the work I did. I am not sure how I will do the sleeve style yet, maybe like the screen used one with one cut off short and one with the front cut out and left hanging back. Or I may go with both forearms showing for the reasons I already said, kinda like Wicked-Beard did. But anyway, they are in progress. I just wanted to explain the steps as opposed to just posting photos and answering questions later. I want to make the bones look as though they are poking out, and covered them some to give a cleaner illusion, and cover up the old latex ridges.I already painted the gloves with brown acrylics and mod podge when I got them as a test, but the whole gloves/hands will be redone with some brown/black to match all of my other parts. I hated to cover the bones on the arm at all, but this will look more accurate and more realistic hopefully. I spent about 5 hours watching the movie and extras, although the suit/statue looks slightly different than the movie costume on the part 7 extra with Kane. So I will add my own touches and go by both. But here they are so far, still need to do one thinner coat on the bottom to allow some stretching just in case, then painting and finishing etc. Then see how much the gloves will cover and add more latex if needed etc.

OK I just just filled in the gaps between the bones and sides with latex, and some oatmeal; should look great when dry. I also may add some exposed bone later with latex and paper towels. Will post more pics after final paint up. This should be fun. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/turned.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":turned:\" border=\"0\" alt=\"turned.gif\" /> <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/teehee.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":teehee:\" border=\"0\" alt=\"teehee.gif\" />

Very nice that is coming along great are you gonna paint the white when your done?

Jason Hands/arms Part 7 In Progress - sirbrad - 08-14-2008

Which white do you mean? The actual "stock" bones on the glove? Or the latex? The latex yes, the bones I am not sure yet as they look decent already, but I was thinking of painting them with a watered down brown for a more rotted look like in the movie. They are sort of an off-white mixed with black now, and the pics do not show all the detail, and the florescent lighting makes everything seem a lot whiter than it really is. I just finished the bottoms, and will let the whole thing dry until tomorrow. I may even add some yellow pus spots, or just use the mod podge to get that effect where the bone meets the skin. I may also do the sides of the fingers and bring some "skin" up to make the bones appear to be protruding out. This is only my second time using the latex, so I am learning pretty fast lol. I am sure after I read all the books I have I will be wishing I did other stuff I did not know. But I want to get this finished for Halloween and not have to rush around like last year. But I am still not rushing it. But they should be pretty nasty when I am done, and the skin will have the same wet/oozing look as my other parts. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /> I just hope they fit well. There is only so much weathering you can for a wearable costume that will last years, but for a display I could really go nuts. But it is far too time consuming to do two versions! <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"Smile\" border=\"0\" alt=\"smile.gif\" /> So I have to find a median.

You finally got a new camera?!? <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" />

Jason Hands/arms Part 7 In Progress - sirbrad - 08-15-2008

Same camera, just takes more detailed pics up close. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /> I have an expensive Polaroid, but the batteries go dead in literally 5 minutes! So I just don't bother with it, and not sure if rechargeables would work and would be a pin anyway. But the brightness of the white made the lighting better, although it is more yellow now. I may add some torn up cotton for a nasty finish as well, but will have to see how thick the latex is, as I am trying not to get too thick until I know how they fit.I used some ripped up paper towel "flat" squares on the bottom for a different texture as well, and not too much more as they will be seen less. Right now just touching up the parts missed with the big brush, then I will see if I can some cotton or some other stuff, then first paint.

Jason Hands/arms Part 7 In Progress - sirbrad - 08-17-2008

Almost finished. They looked great dry, but I decided all my parts are going to be wet looking and charred/burnt like the movie. Thought the bones looked a little too white and clean, so I charred them as well with watered down paint, and mod podge sealer to give the whole arms that wet oozy look. I did not do the fingers yet though as I may add some latex/skin on the sides, not sure yet. So far I am very impressed and they look great! I love them in lower lighting. Next set I may add some ripped up cotton as well to add to the textures. Tried to keep the edges clear for flexibility, and the wrist area. Just needs final touch-ups.

The darker pics is more how they actually look, nasty and burnt. The close ones were done under the light just to show details, and has a lot of white reflecting off.
