Just wondering what was hardest for you...Sulpting or painting or both, I know everyone is going to be different.

If you dont already own it you should buy Mark alfrey's molding and casting dvd. its very informative and helpful.

De-molding. It's the biggest pain in the ass. So is getting the latex to sit right and making a good pull.

Sounds like my daily routine. The Alfrey DVD's are great .There is a mistake on the Alfrey video I am told. You aren't supposed to let the detail print coat completely dry before adding the second layer . When you do that the second layer goes through it's heating , expandinding and contracting phase and cracks the print coat. You just need to let it almost loose it's shine . It may have beencorrected but I have been getting emails from customer/friends about cracked molds and thats where they got the info.Honestly save your money and don't buy the kits get all of the stuff locally and more affordable. Clay can be purchaced at local art stores or pottery supply warehouses. I prefer WED clay (EM 217) or Chavant NSP MediumGo to <a href=\"http://www.usg.com/\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.usg.com/</a> and find a local supplier for Ultra cal 30 i rarely use it I prefer what Don Post has always used also made by USG #1 pottery plaster or Hydra calYou really shouldn't even bother with latex until you have purchaced an anatomy book and some clay,tools and either pipe or head of sorts. I recommend Jon Fullers armature if he still sells it you won't have to cut the head off and extend it or get a mannequin head.If you can't sculpt and learn the molding process the latex will be wasted $$ I have seen this time after time after time.I recommend the anatomy book Anatomy for the artist by stephen rodgers peck . Just about every FX artist and mask maker friend I have own it. Any anatomy book should do even Google head and neck anatomy. If there isn't underlying structrure implied then it will be flat and fake looking. I wish I had the internet 20 years ago when I started by trial and error racing to do the details.
