I'm thinking about making my next mold out of fiberglass because of its weight and thickness difference vs ultra cal I found the fiberglass chopped strand mat and its pretty inexpensive but I found a few resins but wasn't sure which one to use and how much to get for a two piece mold any info would be awesome! Here is a link with some info but again not sure if 4lbs would be enough or not. http://www.fiberglasswarehouse.com/MainPag...y=Mold%20Making Thanks,Heck

What will you be casting your piece in?

LAtex all I know is it takes WAY longer to get a good thickness but I'm OK with that.

Hey man you dont want to make a fiberglass mold for latex it would take forever to cure .. That is the whole point in the ultra cal or a stone mold it allows the ammonia to separate from the rubber . Ammonia is pulled in the the pours of the stone mold and that is what helps the mask to cure. Later

Take care,Heck

As mentioned above.....Unless you plan on brushing layer after layer, blow-drying between each one, to build up a mask thickness(1/8").....fiberglass isn't the way to go. "5 times longer"...I don't think so. It would be the same as leaving 5 gallon pail of latex open.....how long would it take for that latex to skin to the right thickness against a plastic bucket? Not to mention, as layers start to dry, they begin to shrink. By adding more layers, they will shrink and warp, affecting the previous layer(s).Just trying to giving you some insight.
