Collection Piece: Lifesize Chucky Doll - Howlrunner - 10-12-2009
Not really posted any of my work on this forum before (will probably post collection pics at some point), so I thought I'd share my one of my latest projects. Hope you like it. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":thumbsup:\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" /> I'm a big fan of the Child's Play movies and the later Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky, and have always wanted my own lifesize Chucky. There are some fantastic replicas available, but almost all are about half size or smaller. The lifesize Sideshow Collectibles Chucky would be my holy grail, but considering that it's going for about $1000 these days, it just ain't gonna happen....So..... I snagged myself the 26" Bride of Chucky doll (just 2" short of lifesize - I can live with that!) for a reasonable price and have started modifying it. Here's the doll as it arrived:<img src=\"http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/112/l_a2b440db6a904730981f1f159323be43.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/24/l_08baab1b27234a57a63f388300daadb7.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />It's really rather good sculpt-wise, but those metal staples are wrong (they should be black thread stitching) and those eyes are TERRIBLE (they're not looking in the same direction, the paint job sucks and one iris is way bigger than the other).So first I removed the head (a simple snip of a cable tie) and then I sliced out the eyes (the head is hollow vinyl).Next I gave the face a quick flesh-toned base coat and shaved off the hair that was rooted in the wrong place (this doll's hairline was all wrong):<img src=\"http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/88/l_28120cb9121f4d0080540b8a55ce008d.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />Then came the really tedious bit - individually removing each clump of hair stubble so it can be smoothed over. This was done using a mixture of tweezers to pull hair out, a needle and hobby knife to push hair in, and my girlfriends tiny hands to fit inside the head and remove hair.<img src=\"http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/2/l_89a032eca0b84a24ac967a5d3056c5d8.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />I used Milliput to fill all of the hair punched holes and also the scars on the left side of the face and the top of the head (which shouldn't be there), then sanded:<img src=\"http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/29/l_2196262c7fdd4f129e1b7601b0b91a48.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />Then I painted the base coat over that and added a second layer all over the head.I've secured the eyes and sculpted in the missing eyelids with Milliput, then gone over them with the base coat.<img src=\"http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/54/l_1195889fec544d75b19d46042c38666c.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />Then I added pink bruising around the scars, etc:<img src=\"http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/42/l_af2ce87fc5a84fcd9f70e4711c5a75fd.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />Scars, then stitches (NOT staples you foolish manufacturers!), staples and teeth painted:<img src=\"http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/66/l_fec2cf0181e24dba8acd070041d41c5f.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />Although the next photo doesn't look too different from the last photo, I've yellowed the teeth a little more and then varnished them. Also added two staples (real ones) to the right side of the head.The main difference here is that I've gone over the skin with a darker flesh colour that I've then sponged off/in. It doesn't really show in the photo (as they've all been taken with the flash), but it makes a HUGE difference to look at in natural light (not as pale any more). Also added some more purple to the right eye and blended it some more.<img src=\"http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/76/l_f619411d89ef4b04a54f660907e77adb.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />Worked on the body - painted the hands and stitched scar to match the head. I then took some wire coat hangers, unbent them, cut them to length and inserted them through the neck opening into the legs and arms (which are filled with cotton batting). Then I bent the arms and legs into a more life-like walking pose:<img src=\"http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/69/l_9b9689465c0f47578c1a0fbe87e5ccd7.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />

Glued the hair back down along his hairline to hide the roots and added the central "crest" of hair. Also added the stapled-on sections of hair, along with real staples, and cut some hair up very finely for his eyebrows. Man, do I hate supergluing hair!<img src=\"http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/53/l_40640040d1ca4cf7b6b8328e6a5d455d.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/106/l_30990ba907b44e0eb0d3ebb7b6157717.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/58/l_197d8dc2de8b494baa3a2a6e4933cba6.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />I reattached his head with a new cable tie, used cable ties through the bottom of his shoes to attach him to a plastic base that I picked up in the plumbing/guttering section of B&Q, and stuck more straightened wire coat hangers through his body and legs to ensure he stays standing upright by himself.<img src=\"http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/21/l_147a8ba771994f8a9394b8b458d24992.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/82/l_f34e312137f5485191b482843326921b.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/12/l_be5d3d5fc51b45dbb8140f77da61a725.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/61/l_175ca59c5d644873bb03bb0c2a2c3a09.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />

Nice improvements. I have wanted my own Chucky for a long time to, but they are either to expensive or not movie accurate enough so I might go the same route as you.
