Lyoto Machida Vs Shogun Rua - Deathwalk78 - 10-25-2009 UFC 104: “Machida vs. Shogun” went off tonight (Sat., Oct. 24) from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., featuring a main event between undefeated light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and former Pride FC 205-pound wrecking machine, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.Machida somehow remained undefeated with a unanimous decision, but it is certainly a controversial outcome. Perhaps the most controversial since Michael Bisping magically squeaked by Matt Hamill.Shogun punished Machida for five straight rounds with blistering low kicks. Machida’s legs and torso looked like raw sides of beef when all was said and done — he could barely move in the final two rounds. Meanwhile, Shogun looked untouched when all was said and done.Neither fighter was ever in any real trouble throughout the 25-minute contest; however, it appeared that Shogun was definitely the busier fighter who inflicted way more damage.Perhaps because there were no knockdowns the judges erred on the side of caution and gave it to the champion. But it’s hard to see how all three judges unanimously agreed that Machida won that fight … because he didn’t.Only time will tell how this all shakes out, but for now, it appears that Shogun got stiffed tonight. Even Machida looked surprised when the announcement was made by Bruce Buffer.Speechless. Certainly will have to watch that again, sound off, to see if anything was missed … but it seemed clear, only it wasn’t. Lyoto Machida Vs Shogun Rua - stainboy - 10-25-2009 Lemme tell ya, I had money on Machida...and I'll admit he lost.Machida's sole argument was the fact that he won not by a split decision, but that all three judges agreed he won.Ironic, perhaps. But when it comes down to it (just like watching instant replay in an NFL game) there has to be irrefutable evidence to overrule the call on the field. In the ring, I think judges need overwhelming evidence to de-throne a champion. One way or the other, this type of controversy discredits the UFC. I'm sure Dana White is nervous. Lyoto Machida Vs Shogun Rua - Mutilated - 10-25-2009 This kind of stuff creates controversy which in return makes more money. Machida vs Rua II coming soon. I know the judges don't work for the UFC they're commissioned however, who's to say someone didn't pay them off anyways, I wouldn't doubt it. It's been done in boxing. Lyoto Machida Vs Shogun Rua - IbDaToNeGuY - 10-25-2009 that was so much bull . Shogun clearly had him beat and i'm shocked that it didn't at least go to a split . i've seen better ppv's than lastnights but man you gotta love those elbows from Joe lol . my friends and i counted 11 !!!!!! but i'm super pumped for 106 mike, Lyoto Machida Vs Shogun Rua - WarLocK - 10-25-2009 I'm a huge Machida fan and I will say he lost this fight 4 rds to 1 imo. Shogun looked to figure him out early and was very successful with the leg and rib kicks. I couldn't believe how out of his element Lyoto looked after the 2nd round. The odds were off for sure b/c so many were underestimating Shogun, but the fact is that he is back and at 100%. Dude is the real deal. With that said, what a BS decision by the judges... the UFC needs to address this and get the system fixed. The argument is that in order to beat the current champ, you have to win decisively. Shogun didn't do enough to take his belt so the judges rewarded Machida for hanging in there. It's a bad argument because if you look back on the Rampage/Forrest fight, it was pretty darn even, yet Forrest (the challenger at the time) came out on top w/ the win. Something is definitely up. Lyoto Machida Vs Shogun Rua - clownnation - 10-25-2009 I think Shogun won as well, but I dont think he did enoughHe waited for Lyoto instead of chasing him, awsome game plan against a counter striker like Llyoto, but judges HATE that!He also never won any of his take down attempts, so Machida propably got points for stopping the take downs.Sho gun did land the more damaging strikes, but never knocked the champ down, so I had a sick feeling in my stomach that Shogun lost the "decision" Like Ric Flair always said "To be the man, you have to BEAT the man." Sho gun won the fight, but he didnt BEAT Machida enough to take his belt off him Lyoto Machida Vs Shogun Rua - imperialhockmaster - 10-25-2009 Well that was a waste of my hard earned money, im tired of spending big money to watch top fighters stare at each other in the ring, besides the one good knockout of the night i figured the main event to be worth the wait, HAAAA, i was rooting for machida as we all know what he capable of, and yea shogun isnt no joke, but i expected a knockout by the third round from machida, or at least some good ground and pound, and maybe some blood(not the lil kittycat scratches machida recieved), this must have been the most boring ufc in yrs, and the judges must have been payed off, on crack or DUMB, DEAF, AND BLIND! Im sure this was a fixed fight, no doubt, machida can fight, he only seemd to be protecting himself last night <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"mad.gif\" /> ! BS!!! Lyoto Machida Vs Shogun Rua - SideshowFreak - 10-26-2009 I'm a Machida fan and i think he lost. Although it wasn't an impressive fight for either fighter. I'm glad I watch these fights online instead of buying them.Shogun will be back and go on the attack, so hopefully Machida gets his crap together! Lyoto Machida Vs Shogun Rua - monteburns - 10-26-2009 Shogun easily won 3 to 4 rounds. The judging in this fight was fixed just like when Bisping beat Hamill by decision. Lyoto Machida Vs Shogun Rua - gummi - 10-26-2009 Between decisions like this and all of the early stoppages I've seen lately, I also think something needs to be done. The system is obviously flawed, and it's beginning to take some of the enjoyment out of watching the UFC lately. I refuse to pay for an event anymore, so I have to scour the local bars to find out where it's being played. I'm not sure if there has been a single event this year that would have been worth the $50 price tag. |
