Are We In A Recession? - PREMATURE INKER - 12-06-2009

I don't know if anyone else has wondered this and be it my own personal curiousity about this matter but why are we seeing these huge prices on masks either on ebay or on NO ???...Do you really think someone is still going to plop down 250.00 + dollars for a mask right now?..I find it hilarious that people are still asking for hundreds of dollars for these things..I know its a personal choice of free enterprise and all that but,There has to be come logic involved and consideration for the recession people are in.Now I am not complaining because I want to buy..I just want to know what sellers are thinking charging such huge amounts of dough in todays market of low economical growth.J

Prob because they're independent and masks are their only source of income.

That is a given from people like Justin and the originators of the masks..I get that..But I am talking about resells on the masks..Thx!J

I am currently selling off some pieces to both bring in funds and make space for some new stuff. Most of what I have is still priced at the $250 mark simply because I paid that much for each mask. I am actually taking a fair hit on some of the stuff, which is fine.Fact of the matter is the recession doesn't affect 'everyone'. There will always be someone who does have the disposable income to spend on such luxuries. As I often have to say myself, if I don't have the cash at the time, I move on.

$250 is pretty cheap compared to some of the prices on masks out there. Try doubling that (and more). Hell, I got a mask for $250 that's worth $400 and up Wink so it's not all sellers asking for full prices.

I know I've lowered my prices for collectors to try and meet them halfway during these crappy times. I'm also surprised at some of the asking prices of collectibles but then again the materials for making such products has risen as well. Tell me how that makes sense???

If anything Jason, i'd say this is the cheapest i've ever seen masks sell for! <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" /> Alot of people ''including myself'' have been loosing money on pieces.

I agree with you all..I use to be a huge collector having 30 plus myers masks including 2 KH/DW plus many other collectors masks...I got maybe 75% of what I spent back on them and the economy was good then.Materials cost more because companies are not making as much and clearly have to jack up prices to catch up and meet or surpass overhead. Most cannot do this nowadays and therefore is the huge reason for layoffs and our 17% country wide jobless rate.It just seems wierd in such a more personalized industry there cannot be lower prices to fit the collectors wallet.I do plan on collecting again soon but at these prices its going to be very difficult to start. Thanks for the info guys.J

You gotta watch a lot of these dudes, they'll buy a mask really cheap and turn around and sell it for triple what they paid for it, they act like because they personally owned it, it's worth more now. You got a lot of honest dudes though who sell things at great prices and take a loss just to move it. I've only seen it around here once or twice, but a lot on ebay.

I cant understand why a mask goes for $250 but us glove makers are lucky to sell a high end glove that is true to a film for $200.. Real work goes into every glove every time on is built, it is made from scratch, and its much more of an art form that painting, and laying hair.. I sculpt to but you only have to do it once then you mask is ready to mold. Of coarse im gonna get reamed for this but i dont care!
