So apparently Michael C Hall had cancer and it has been treated and it is in remission right now. I am assuming that is why his head was shaved after the season 4 finale when him and Lithgow were talking.

I just read online he had a very treatable cancer and has made a full recovery and should start shooting season 5 of Dexter soon.
