Friday The 13th Continuity - JigSaw - 01-19-2010 I wrote this out for a friend of mine who was complaining that horror movies are all horribly plotted out films with no continuity; that the killer dies in every film, but comes back alive.Jason is born June 13, 1946. He "drowns" at age 11, 1957, but no body is recovered. His mom murders two counselors June 13th, 1958, and Camp Crystal Lake is shut down. Summer 1961, a fire prevents the camp from opening. 1962, another attempt is made to reopen, but the camp is closed due to water issues. Steve Cristy, owner of the camp, attempts to reopen it later in 1979, when he and 6 of his 7 hired counselors are murdered my Pamela Voorhees, Jason's mom. She's killed by Alice, a female survivor, on Jason's 33rd birthday. She is murdered two months later by Jason, who did not drown in 57, but has been living in the woods since. In 1982, Chris, a teen girl, flees after a fight with her parents, into the woods. She's attacked by Jason, but not killed. She passes out to awake in her bed. July 11, 1984, a counselor training camp is opened close to Crystal Lake by Paul Holt. Jason murders several counselors leaving only a few remaining, and is wounded in the shoulder by Ginny Field. Jason passes out, attacks Ginny in the window, but leaves her alive. Alice's body (from 79) is found in Jason's shack in the woods.July 12, 1984, Jason murders a store owner and his wife and grabs some new clothes. He murders 3 bikers robbing vacationing teenagers at Higgins Hill barn, and waits in the barn/woods until night where he murders the vacationing teenagers. He has trouble with the Chris, the one from the woods 2 years earlier. She axes him in the head, leaving him passed out on the barn floor. Jason's body is brought to Wessex County Morgue, where he gains consciousness and escapes the morgue leaving two late night employees murdered. For obvious reasons, his body is claimed "missing" from the morgue. Navigating his way around Wessex County, he stumbles upon the Jarvis Family and the neighboring teenagers renting the house nextdoor. Rob, Sandra's brother (a counselor under Paul Holt's training), is in Wessex attempting to find Jason to seek his vengeance, due to the recent news that Jason's body was missing from the Wessex Morgue. He finds Jason, but is murdered shortly after. Tommy Jarvis, at 12 years old, murders Jason with a machete to the face. Jason is DEAD, for the first time in the series. But I believe part 2 took place on a Friday the 13th, I think Paul states that in part of his monologue (if memory serves).Of course if you try to make the whole series internally consistent, big problems develop. Tommy Jarvis's medication history is visible for a few seconds in part V, and he has been on anti-anxiety meds since 1980 or 81 (again, if memory serves, check it out)... presumeably this was as a result of his encounter with Jason. Also, there was no Friday, June 13th in 1979, but I've seen another fan chronology that says there was in 1975, which would make the entire Paramout series chronologically consistent... otherwise, parts 6 - whatever get pushed into the 1990's. The 1979 of course comes from Mrs. Voorhees tombstone in part 4, however I have seen incorrect information on tombstones doing genealogy and stuff, so its plausible... yes even the years are sometimes wrong and for most people its too expensive to fix. Friday The 13th Continuity - scabboy - 01-21-2010 Problem is with these movies, even though things fit alright the movies were never written and directed WITH continuity in mind. They just happened to fit nicely (well up until maybe Part 6 or 7 then you really have to wedge a square peg into a round hole) by accident. Friday The 13th Continuity - Jasonlivessince1980 - 01-21-2010 Yeah. And even though I love part 3 and 4 I can't stand the fact that they were filmed in California-- after having lived out there I see California mountains, oaks and palm trees all over part 3... and part 6 with the Georgia pines, you don't see trees like that in NJ! Friday The 13th Continuity - adam - 01-21-2010 I always had a problem with the order Jason killed the kids in the house in Part 4. It's like they mixed up the scenes in the editing room. And there is an order you can put them in where Jason starts at point A and makes his way to point B, being the last person in the house. But the way it stands, he's jumping up and down floors with an apparent ability to teleport, much like in the later "zombie" Jason films. Friday The 13th Continuity - scabboy - 01-21-2010 Zito said in the commentary it was because a scene was removed which had Jason go from point A to point B. Friday The 13th Continuity - evilsmellyclown - 01-22-2010 Jigsaw, that was a really fun read. Thanks for posting. I actually saw all the first 4 movies in my head while I was reading it, so I read it 2 more times. Awesome thread. Good point. There's no intended story arc, and I think that's the main argument against a series like Ft13. |
