Customizing A Figure. - Last_of_the_Brunnen-G - 07-31-2010

I got an 18 inch McFarlane Movie Maniacs Freddy off eBay a while back, and a couple of the blades broke off. A couple of the blades on his glove broke off. So, I have been thinking of removing all the blades and replacing them with some that are more accurate to the part 1 glove since I think the figure is based on part 1. The down side is, I'm not sure what to make the new blade sout of. I'd like to use plastic that is flexible and won't break if the figure should fall over or heaven forbid my son got a hold of it. Any feedback there? While I'm asking, what would be the best way to cust some clean grooves in the tops of the fingers to put the blades into? I figure with the blades being that small, they will need to be in the fingers somewhat to guarantee they stay put......I think a total repaint may be a good idea as well. Who's
really good at painting things that scale?

That is a nice Freddy figure, always wish I'd grabbed it so I could do a re-haul on it. The best course of action for the blades I'd say would be a light weight tin, or aluminum. You'll get a MUCH better look from them, and if he does fall they just bend, and you can straighten them easily. To cut the groves, I'd use an exacto knife and just carefully notch out the plastic, cut a V grove first, then work the sides at the bottom a little wider. As for paint, if you don't mind shipping costs 2 back and forth to Canada, I'd be happy to work on it for ya. I do a lot of models and kits in that scale and smaller, here's a link to some of my work so you can check it out.

If you're game to do this, drop me a line and we'll work out the details!

Get some bobby pins and Dremel them to the correct shape and size. Cut the grooves in the fingers with an X-Acto knife and super glue the new blades in place.
