Angering Mystery - Last_of_the_Brunnen-G - 08-24-2010 I recently set up a bank account and put one dollar into it to keep it open and from acrueing any charges. The purpose was so once I started back to work and got things in my life back in track I'd be able to deposit my paychecks somewhere. Last night I set it up to be linked to my paypal account and I decided to check on it tonight. I wasn't able to log into my account online because it had a security question that was not the one I set for it when I set up the account. Then I called the 24 hour line to access my account that way and thats when I discovered the account is $102.50 overdrawn. According to the records I have a $2.49 debit from the account up until about a week ago on literally everyday. Tomorrow, I will be calling to speak with a live operator, and some heads may very well roll, but in the meantime, I know there is a wide variety of members here from all walks of life and different professions, so I was wondering if any of you guys might have an idea whats up. This is not a good thing to ad don top of many personal and financial issues I'm dealing with now. Angering Mystery - Homicidal#9 - 08-24-2010 it sounds like some kind of strange service charge. I don't know why it would be taken out everyday though. I know that when linking an account to paypal, they verify the account by either adding a small amount or taking out a small amount...maybe that has something to do with it... take care, Tommy Angering Mystery - auzorann - 08-24-2010 i don't know very much about these types of things but maybe the account has to have so much money in it or you're charged. does it say where the charge is coming from? Angering Mystery - stainboy - 08-24-2010 Yeah...I don't know how long ago you opened the account....but monthly service charges do exist for accounts under a certain amount (under $200 in my case costs me $5 a month). I had $50 one month and the next it was down to $45. It's possible that one service charge put you over the limit one month and then the overdrawn limit might have had a massive charge attached. Angering Mystery - Jasonlivessince1980 - 08-25-2010 it could be paypals fault, i second what was said above, they charge a tiny amount to test the account linkup Angering Mystery - Last_of_the_Brunnen-G - 08-25-2010 Thanks for the input guys. As it turns out, there was indeed a maintanance fee because I didn;t have $100 in my account and didn;t use my debit card at least 5 times in a month. I can totally understand that EXCEPT, I am very aware that banks will do this kind of thing, so when I was getting the account set up, this was a specofoc question I asked because I knew I wouldn;t be putting any more money intot he account for a while and the teller who set it up assured me there would be no charges or fees and the $1 would keep the account open and fine. I guess he was just selling me what I wanted to hear in order to get an account open and help some kind of commission. That's my best guess, but none the less, I will talking to a manager in person. |
