Silicone Mask Question - ullilein - 06-08-2011 So I just scored a silicone mask off of ebay for $30! The sculpt is okay and the paint is really bad. I was wondering what I could use that was silicone safe to strip the paint and what types of paint can I use to repaint it. I also wanted to know if there is a way to add to the mask. I would like to build up some portions of it or maybe make it look like it is a burn victim. I will post some pics as soon as I get it. Silicone Mask Question - travsall - 06-08-2011 Not easy to strip silicone paint, since it bonds to the mask extremely well, silicone bonds best to silicone. Repainting on top is an easy thing though, I did that last year with a mask, I also added some detail to it as well, all with silicone. Get a tube of GE Silicone 1, a can of mineral spirits (for thinning oil paint and cleaning brushes) then a multicolor set of oil paints, and some brushes and sponges. To add detail, just use the silicone itself, after cleaning the mask with a little rubbing alcohol, add it to the mask with a brush, popsicle stick, or other sculpting tool and build it up till you're happy. Let it sit at least a full day before painting. For the paint, thin the same silicone down with the mineral spirits till it's a a good paint consistency, then add just a little bit of the oil paint for pigment and mix it in until it's even. Paint on with a brush, or sponge and that's about it! Silicone Mask Question - ianfxmen - 06-09-2011 just be carefull not to over paint it since silicone that as been cured for a long time it is almost impossible to repaint it without it delaminating over time and manipulation. Silicone Mask Question - ullilein - 06-09-2011 Thanks for the response guys! When I get it I will post some pics to get a better idea of what I can do with it. Silicone Mask Question - Mutilated - 06-10-2011 Can you post pics of the mask from the auction so we can see? Silicone Mask Question - ullilein - 06-10-2011 Here is a link to the auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=120732629631&si=8pPJHQ%252BIQiHjZOvTCNkQYpTWRhc%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT#ht_500wt_1156 Silicone Mask Question - Mutilated - 06-10-2011 Looks like something from Hellraiser, it has potential and doesn't look like it should be to hard to fix up.
