EDIT: 8-07: Mike has finally casted a perfect buck. In about a week, he will receive the styrene from his source, then he will begin making the pulls and prototype Part 6 style the following week after he gets back from New Jersey convention on the 26th.
I\'m quite excited for this, myself. Hehe.
EDIT: 7-30: Okay, we have some major updates that we feel we need to inform you guys of.
First, this mask still may be a part 3 recast, but it cannot be proven. There is too little evidence and only hearsay to go on. I\'m laying down this theory for the moment, and focusing on some new information I have about this blank.
Second, I\'m about 96% certain that this blank is a first-generation part 6 mask, made from the movie mold. I\'ve found every single bump and dent that\'s on this pull in movie screen caps from part 6...Even the eyes\' precise shape and "curve" that was left intact when the eyes were cut smaller than they were meant to be. It\'s almost impossible to spot these things in part 3. There is just too little to go on....In part 6, they jump right out at ya if you know what you\'re looking for. Plus, this blank dates back to the 80s and is made of the same thickness of white styrene that the screen-used part 6 masks were made out of....Coincidence? I don\'t think so. Replicas didn\'t exist back then. Especially vac-formed ones. This thing is most likely an authentic part 6 movie pull, as is the one that "tommyjarvis13" owns.
Mike and I are going to act accordingly with this new discovery and offer the part 6 versions FIRST, as opposed to last, like we had planned. Mike\'s also still making the mold currently, as he had a bit of a problem with the first buck that he needed to go back and fix. Nothing really serious, though. This project is unaffected. It will just take a bit longer to remold the urethane casting and fix the problems. The urethane buck came out BEAUTIFULLY, and if we can just get the friggin clay pour to come out as nicely, then we\'ll be back on track.
Let me begin by saying thanks to Jason Hanks once again, for giving me the opportunity to own this thing. It has been a pleasure dealing with you, and I hope to again in the future.
Now, on to the mask itself. I\'m sure that ALL of you have seen this before, and at some point, wondered what it truly was.....Part 6 production mask?........Part 3 production mask?........There seem to be many stories and viewpoints as to the origins of this elusive white blank.
I tried to learn as much info on the early screen masks as I possibly can, and through examining screen caps, I found out that there were only 2 masks used for Part 3. I also discovered that these same two masks were reused for Part 4, and the Part 3 hero mask was used as the Final Chapter poster mask and the "exploding mask" at the beginning of the film. I discovered that the part 4 movie mask was reused AGAIN in part 5, and that Dick Warlock had kept it after production. I was astounded at the movie history that these things have under their belts...Dick\'s Part 3 stunt mask had been used in THREE of the Friday films, and the Part 3 hero had been used in two.
Through some other sources, I discovered that Tom Savini originally kept the Part 3 hero after Part 4 was a wrap. He sold it back in the late 80s/early 90s to a private collector, who later on sold it to another collector in the mid 90s. This thing has had around 2 or 3 owners since then, and I don\'t know much about the current whereabouts of it. This next part is completely hearsay, but I\'ll post it anyway just for the awesome rumor aspect of it: One of the earliest owners I\'ve heard of, is a guy named Ken. This Ken guy, I discovered, apparently worked with Magical Media Industries back in the 80s to create the Part 7 hockey mask blanks. These Part 7 blanks were supposedly created by recasting Ken\'s Part 3 hero mask...Hear that, guys? If this is all true, that means all of your NIGHTOWL part 7 masks COULD be third generation Part 3 recasts.
I also found out that the INFAMOUS white recast that\'s been floating around these forums for about 3 years now was the first of two white test pulls (if not the ONLY white test pull...) that was made for Friday the 13th part 6 back in the 80s. It was never cut, and went into storage for many years until a just a few years ago, when it was sold on ebay for a pretty nice price to a member of this community. No one was really sure what it was back then....And none of the previous couple of owners have really been sure what it was, either. All they knew was that this thing is very valuable. They never knew just how right they were!
In short, this mask is a Part 6 movie-molded blank that could also be a direct, untampered recast of the Part 3 Hero/Part 4 Poster/Part 4 Intro mask. This is one of the masks that got me into this hobby in the first place, and now I own THE perfect replica of it. I think it\'s safe to say that I am done collecting hockey masks unless someone gets Mr. Warlock to recast his Part 4....and we all know how likely THAT is. =P
