What I Love About Mask Collecting.. - mayney - 08-01-2005 Basically what I think Im addicted to , is the actual recieving of the mask or prop or whatever it happens to be. I think we create a 5yr olds christmas for ourselves everytime we wait for, and recieve something from the postman. That immortal excitement, the doorbell rings and cough on your coffee....race to the door, bloody snatch the box with glee....you want to hug the postman and say "Jesus, thanks mate" but we also know deep down that may be inappropriate....and then sometimes that happens anyway... you scribble your name on the plastic screen...get inside...you had promised yourself, you would savour the opening...and you do to a degree....your hands shake.... You remeber you wanted to play a certain theme tune as you opened it, but you just cant get yourself away from the box to do it.... and then you get it. And with that first visual view...and nothing can beat that...you stare, you get a powerful whiff of the latex (which is usually one of my fav. parts.....) and youre amazed, in awe, youre heart is jumping,.... and youre as happy as when you were a wee fella, or girl on xmas...at 6.00 am in the morning...you have your absolute treasure, and you go in often to look at it, touch it, wear it...and generally it fills you with glee!!!! Lovely. Colin What I Love About Mask Collecting.. - JV13 - 08-01-2005 The weird rubbery smell of latex is indeed a great smell. It\'s because it reminds of the great times I\'ve had at Halloween spending the night sniffing that same smell inside the mask. I love getting the items from the postman. No doubt.. What I Love About Mask Collecting.. - IbDaToNeGuY - 08-01-2005 i could be wrong but you MIGHT just might be into this just a tad more than me . but hey , whatever floats your boat dude . mike, What I Love About Mask Collecting.. - Homicidal#9 - 08-01-2005 i grew up poor as hell....my family was never able to afford nice halloween costumes and such...but my mom busted her ass to come up with original cheap costume ideas. She even busted more ass to fix up the house for the holiday as well. While everyone else had nice store bought costumes and masks, i was a clown...or a generic ghost...one year i was even ET...even though everyone said i was an Oranguatan(sp?).....but again, my moms did her best. She is even the one that got me into horror movies in the first place. She loved the black and white classics. So i guess you could say i got my love from my Mom...as i got older and started making my own money...the stuff got nicer...and it still continues that way. I am almost 30 years old now...and to this day, my mom is still the very first person i show my new stuff to...even before any of you, just to see the look in her eyes and the smile on her face, because she knows that i got it from her....sorry so sappy...the topic just struck a chord with me...but that is the main reason as to why i collect masks and replicas... Thanks, Tommy What I Love About Mask Collecting.. - mayney - 08-01-2005 Very cool Tommy, very cool! What I Love About Mask Collecting.. - JV13 - 08-01-2005 Hey Tommy I can definitely relate to ya man. I grew up in a trailer that my mom tried to make a home lol. So if there is anyone who can relate about money problems..it\'s me. I\'ve started to make some money doing some things so I hope to get some sweet masks soon. I have my first Hockey Mask on the way from Krypt Keeper..can\'t wait til it gets here. My first Jason mask that isn\'t a converted Wal Mart one lol.. What I Love About Mask Collecting.. - Homicidal#9 - 08-01-2005 damn man...i remember those days...i did that for years...funny thing is...most people thought the hockey masks looked great, but then again, they really didnt know any better either. I think that is one of the biggest reasons as to why i have given the masks and hockey masks and such away like i have. I cannot stand to see someone go through what i have gone through...at least not if i can help them in anyway...even if it is just sendin them a painted plastic Hockey Mask.... Tommy What I Love About Mask Collecting.. - JV13 - 08-01-2005 Heh I understand ya completely man. In 2003 I posted on the FT13 board a picture of a plastic Hockey Mask that I converted into the FvJ one. Well, this kid kept PM\'ing me asking for tips and everything and how to do it and blah blah blah. Anyway, after about 8 emails I finally just asked if he wanted the thing lol.. I really didn\'t think much of it because it was just a plastic Hockey Mask. Sure, I\'ve never had anything better than that and I was proud of the paintjob and everything, but it really was no big deal giving it away. I only spent maybe 10 bucks altogether. With straps, paint, and the Hockey Mask itself. He showed me pictures of the mask on Halloween and everything. It was pretty sweet to see someone appreciate something I didn\'t really care for. I think that is why I\'m not a big "100% accurate" kind of guy. If it looks decent to someone else, chances are I think it\'s badass because I appreciate it more. Anyway yeah that is my one good deed in life lol.. What I Love About Mask Collecting.. - Kdunaway18 - 08-01-2005 Hell I always loved halloween and masks and stuff but I didn\'t know about all this cool shit untill I met mike last halloween and bought my first Hockey Mask from him and it\'s kinda snowballed from there.I just moved out on my own so when I have the money to get something new and when it gets hear it makes it twice as cool to me.I just got my first latex masks from him yesterday and can\'t wait till I get another box of latex. Keith, What I Love About Mask Collecting.. - puckface - 08-01-2005 I sometimes think of it like this....if we had no way of showing off our goods on the internet...like with pics or whatever....would we still collect? Cuz sumtimes people get things cuz they know others will like...in a way its like peer pressure... And now back to a very special episode of Oprah.. |
