Please Help Me Age My Hockey Mask... - Martoch - 09-25-2005

Hey guys!

I got this FvJ fiberglass hockey mask on ebay, but I need to age it a bit more...you know, dirty it up to make it look more authentic. It looks too clean to me right now.

What do you suggest I use on it, aside from the obvious real dirt of course? I want it to look good, but not have to reapply mud every night that I wear it during our haunted house.

Thanks!!!
Mike

Hehe, no offense taken...I didn\'t pay too much for it.

I have no experience with acrylic paint, is there anything I have to do to prepare the mask or do I just dip a brush in the paint and go to town? Can I clean off mistakes while it\'s still wet or is it unforgiving?

Thanks!

ok, get black and brown acrylic paint, make 2 mixtures one of each color...you mix paint with water a 50/50 mixture and mix it with a paintbrush. then apply this mixture to areas that need weathering and wait about a minute then dab it with a wash cloth and it makes a nice effect repeat about 20 times more on certain areas such as around they eyes. keep doing this until you reach the desired look

Mix the acrylic paint with water... Brush on an even coat... wait till it dries a bit.. then splotch it gently with a rag or a sponge. keep on until it gets as weathered as u want it.

Sad

I don\'t have the $$.

I really don\'t think the average person in line for our haunted house are going to think, "he really needs to get a better Hockey Mask". I mean, sure, you guys know your stuff...but my cheap Party City overhead mask did well enough last year.

Thanks for the encouragement!
