That\'s just terrible. Those bastards! Sorry to hear that too man. I once got an email claiming it was from paypal... wanting me to update my account and I forwarded the email to paypal\'s fraud department and they later verified it was a fake.

That\'s cool Chase took care of you man.

I can\'t stress this enough, ALWAYS make sure when you log into something like this with personal information it says <span style=\'font-size:21pt;line-height:100%\'>HTTPS://</span> in front of the URL, that\'s how you know it\'s safe and secure.

Sorry this happened to you, hope everything gets situated out.

man...that sucks.

i too almost fell victim to the same thing...started entering my credit and all that than double checked, and the url was actually playpal.com or some shit...but the email title was from paypal...and looked completely legit. well, hopefully by posting this will prevent any future scams on members. sorry to hear that HB

I found my wife accessing our paypal account through an email link and starting to input the data for the CC card - I shut her down and ranted for about an hour and a half and made her change everyone of our passwords even though she never gave out the bank information - we did not speak for two days.

the end result is I never use the link even for rebidding or for answering messages - just too many scammers out there.

the even better results is my wife no longer will have anything to do with paypal or ebay

glad you got out of it without damage

Im A Moron - The Death Curse - 01-24-2007

Quote:Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on this one. I recieved an email this morning saying my paypal account that I use for fun stuff and ebay, needed to be updated. So like an idiot, trusting paypal and maybe just being naive on my part, i entered my CC info and was done.
There was about 200 bucks in my checking account at the time. When I checked it 3 hours later, i had a balance of -951.28. Someone had wired money from my checking account thru WesternUnion.com.
When I called WU fraud dept. I was told that they had built a profile, ME  , and attempted to tranfer money 4 times totalling about 5,000 dollars to the Dominican Republic. For some reason even though there was only 200 and some change in the account the a- holes still got 951.28. Luckily Chase covered my dumbass and its not costing me anything, but i still have to change my passwords, get a new debit card, just a pain in the rear.

The reason im writing this is to give you guys all a heads up to look out for this crap. The page looked 100% real, it fooled the hell out of me. Just be careful, i would hate to see someone really lose thier ass to one of these lowlifes.

The Paypal site and *real* emails are LITTERED with warnings against this kind of stuff. That said, I\'m sorry to hear that you fell for it. There\'s way too much scum in the world today. You should be more cautious with "Paypal" emails, and only handle any and all problems DIRECTLY through the www.paypal.com website.

Cheers,

Ryan

That sucks bro..glad you got your money back though. I get those spam emails too. I just report them

Im A Moron - Punisher - 01-24-2007

Sorry to hear that. Sad I know AOL does a decent job of filtering those out, but now if I get an e-mail from Paypal or Ebay, I just forward it to spoof@ebay/paypal.com and report it before I do anything. I have yet to have a legit one come to me. Hopefully things calm down for you, soon. Nice to hear you\'re covered on the fraud, though.
