Global Recession... - Jasonlivessince1980 - 05-14-2010 <!--quoteo(post=362183:date=May 14 2010, 03:54 PM:name=killerpsychomask)<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE (killerpsychomask @ May 14 2010, 03:54 PM) <a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=362183\"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class=\'quotemain\'><!--quotecI am in a tight spot right now, but I think we collectively will be fine. Perhaps Health care was focused on too soon in Obama's Presidency, but it was needed. It will save money in the short and long term, and the fact is, America is way behind most of the rest of the developed world in terms of Health care. Just one recent statistic, we are the 47th country in the world in the number of people in our population that will make it to 60 years old. We are just ahead of Iran and way behind most of the rest of the western world! It is atrocious. Too many years of hard working, low paid citizens not being able to afford health care. The horrible healthcare the military has endured. The result is many don't get any preventative care, and so don't avoid major diseases and ailments, they otherwise would have, and that drains us far more than the preventative care will. The only reason we haven't done this sooner, is the giant drug companies have too much to lose, a multi trillion dollar business is at stake if we should start getting less ill! Just like oil. Shell will lose their record profits if we go electric with our cars. As for the Democrats being so awful spending money. The facts don't support that. The most over budgeted administrations in American history are all Republican, GW Bush, Reagan and Nixon. Bush being by far the worst, and he followed Clinton, who had one of the most balanced budgets ever, over his 8 years. Not to mention the stock market, [where if you are like me, a self employed artist, you likely have some investment since income does not come consistently form art work] is historically much better under a Democratic administration, see the best ever 8 year run under Clinton, and the second worst 8 years ever, under Bush. The problem now is the US economy has recovered much more quickly than Europe. Most of the bailouts have been paid nearly all back in the US, but not in Europe. We've had earnings and GDP numbers, that are 6 and 7 year highs over the last 4/5 months. This is reflected in the huge rise in the stock market over the last year. The stock market always foretells the economy, usually by about 6 months. If the Republican's would not stall reform, which they wanted when Bush started the bailouts, but now that Obama tries to do exactly what they wanted, they are stone walling, only in an effort to see him fail! I hope the transparency of their actions in not lost on voters. We were at the bottom of a deep hole 18 months ago, now we are on our way back up.<!--QuoteEnd</div><!--QuoteEEndAll good points, but I want to point out that those overbudget administrations all had to contend with a democrat-controlled congress, where the real spending is done (including Bush's second term). Clinton was dragged into budget slashing by a Republican controlled congress that gave us the biggest surplus in recent history. Besides that Obama is now up there with GW Bush as a record-holding big spender, so its not a "party" thing. Also the recent stock market gains I think are largely illusory and temporary benefits of the stimulus cash being doled out at taxpayer expense. Also some bailout TARP funds were repaid with stimulus money, as was the case with GM, leaving taxpayers on the merry-go-round of idiocy.Totally agree Republicans should stop stonewalling Wall Street reform, it is BADLY needed right now, but our current problem is not all the Republican's fault, both parties are guilty of overspending, I want to see every incumbent booted from congress the next couple of elections days. You still believe in fairy tales.<!--QuoteEnd</div><!--QuoteEEndI rest my case...J- Global Recession... - adam - 05-15-2010 One thing I struggle with is the fact that all of our "representatives" are not that title at all. This struggle I'm talking about is the fact that I don't need or want someone else representing me. In the big picture, I am a man just as they are and I am fully capable of observing, thinking for and speaking for myself. To me, the big fuss over health care, welfare and all these other "fares" and rights is a joke. In life, absolutely nothing is guaranteed, and we're all going to die one way or another. These rights are sold off as something that can ultimately save your life. And before I get slammed for "so-and-so needs that medicine or dr. care to survive", these things wouldn't be so expensive if so many frivolous lawsuits weren't filed, people didn't abuse this health care system, and unions, or legalized gangs, weren't given power and authority. And it's not about party anymore, that's only a mask to separate people into sides so they don't see the big picture... People are brainwashed into siding with one, have children, raise their children this way so that truly they aren't thinking for themselves and regurgitate the same numb political dribble that has been said millions of times before them, and then they have children. Pretty soon, you've got braindead vs. braindead. Granted, there are a majority of people who never think past their same redundant daily actions and actually would rather have someone telling them what to do.. And with these politicians, it's not "how do I help my people?" but, "how do I outsmart my opponent and persuade the peasants under me?". A politician is supposed to be a humble public servant to relay the views and concerns of the people they are representing... Power shouldn't be an element in this picture. But we are made to believe that our government is the answer for everything. In studying, the only promised roles I've found the government owes us is 1) national security/our own protection ie. military and 2) to stay small and always keep the power in OUR (the peoples') hands.Let's reason: a) businesses (or long ago bartering) promote economy by a constant competition, creating jobs, growing, etc. b) government is basically created as a byproduct of these businesses, ie. taxes from these businesses that are growing the economy, helping people sustain by creating jobs, etc. So c) could only mean that government can create nothing gaining because they are fed and kept alive by this market. In the end, our government can actually do nothing productive on their own, economically. These days, our government is like a boa constrictor taking an inch at a time. Every time we get taxed, we breathe out just a little, and when we do, they squeeze just a little more and hold. Pretty soon we have no air left and no way to get more. Anyway, I would be fine being dropped off in the woods somewhere to survive on my own without other men having things to hold over my head and say, by no effort on their own, that what I've done and earned, I owe to them. I owe them not only to continue their career of working against me and their role of being the public <b>servant</b> they were elected to be, but also to aid those people who won't work hard enough to lift a finger to even feed themselves. I'm just sick of this system. This is not the country our still living or long-gone family fought to preserve. This is not God's country or a Christian nation anymore. This is not America as-we-knew-it anymore. What is going on and what we see, unless we really dig, are two entirely different things. This country is a giant facade led by people motivated for self-gain through money and power. It's always been this way since the dawn of man, but the sad thing is this place was set up to be exactly against that. Okay, somewhat unfocused rant over. Good to see there are some guys with some sense and sharp observance on the board. We may still have hope! haha Global Recession... - Patsmear - 05-15-2010 <!--quoteo(post=362425:date=May 15 2010, 07:40 AM:name=PREMATURE INKER)<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE (PREMATURE INKER @ May 15 2010, 07:40 AM) <a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=362425\"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class=\'quotemain\'><!--quotecI think we can all agree and say that god has stepped back and although still watches from a distance, wants us to figure this out while not giving up and forking over THIS land..THE PROMISED LAND mind you to the government that is corrupt..so corrupt that for some insane reason they think if they destroy us economically hence leading us into complete hell that they will escape off to some island somewhere and not be affected?..that is complete insanity so everyone please wake up to what is going on and remember it's not about the parties but what we were founded on and what has held us together for over 200 yrs...CHARACTER MATTERS...we all have a voice and need to use them to tell everyone we can to wake up...it's either this or in a few years we see an america that will no longer belong to us...J-<!--QuoteEnd</div><!--QuoteEEndAmerica hasn't belonged to us for a long long time.
