Has Anyone Ever Had A Price On Ebay Purposefully Raised Because Of Your Interest?

Here's the situation.....twice now in the past three months....I have looked at an item on eBay that has had NO bids, virtually NO looks (20 or less in 7 days) and running the risk of NOT being sold.

I either add that item to my watch list and/or email a question to the seller...and surprise surprise! The item price magically goes up.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Would you buy the item still (even if you really really wanted it)? Would you stick it to the seller based on principle alone?

Or do you sell out and buy the dang thing?

Help! I want your guys' opinions....

Ebay now blocks other bidders names in the bidder history which makes it possible for the seller to shill bid their own auction with either a friend's account or phoney account.

In the bidder history it will show the number of feedback but not the name.
It is a little suspicious when new accounts with zero feedback are putting in last minute high bids on an item which had little to no interest.

If you really want the item & it is rare put in your highest amount your willing to pay at the last few seconds of the auction.

No, I'm not sure you understand what I meant. I'm not talking about some random bidder bidding at the last moment. I understand sometimes people have friends bid up their items. I can never prove that type of fraud.

What I'm talking about is when the seller decides to change his auction listing and marks up the price of his item - ONLY - after I have definitively shown interest in buying it.

I'd probably contact the seller and tell him that I will buy if he sells at original price. If he refusing I may not buy just cause hes a King Richard unless I really want it.

This has happend to me also.
I could be that alot of people are watching it and they know someones going to bid at the last min so they knock up the price to ensure there money wants.

It all comes down to if you really want it or not. Is the price worth it, even with the hike?

This happens to me ALL the time. I have learned that if there's something I want desparately, I will bid immediately...then not bid again until seven days later 10 seconds left to go. I do this for two reasons: so the seller can't change the price, or so the seller doesn't cancel the auction due to someone else emailing them with an offer. And of course, to keep the auction from getting higher and higher with unnecessary bids. And when I place that last bid, I make sure it is always the highest amount I'm willing to pay, not just the next highest bid. This usually guarantees me a win.

I hate letting the seller know how badly I want something, so if I ask a question I ask it kinda short, almost with an attitude but not. I pay the item NO compliments and show NO enthusiasm. I've learned my lesson. I used to get really excited and send emails with OMG THIS ITEM IS F*CKING AMAZING JESUS CHRIST I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HAVE ONE SO COOL I LOVE YOU! Then they'd go for the jugular. heheheh...

If you want the item bad, just get it. If not, teach the creep a lesson and wait for the next one. Third option...this has worked for me: if your gut is telling you no one will buy, let the auction end...then wait for seller to repost. 9 out of 10 times they repost with a cheaper price. Or email them a few hours after the end of auction with a "reasonable" offer, perhaps his first asking price minus 5 bucks for wasting your time...heheh. I've gotten awesome deals this way.
