Need Advice On Writing A Novel

I am getting ready to start writing my first novel and Im using Microft Word 2010. I know some here have written before and just wanted to ask what the best setttings would be for margins and so forth. Any help would be appreciated.

Go with the default settings. If any publisher digs your stuff, everything can be formatted after the fact. The biggest attraction for publication is obviously content.
Just make sure your stuff is worth the time you\'re asking your readers to invest.

I have New Novelist 3. The software walks you through the character archetypes, and story types. It chimes in when you should be hitting on certain story elements and twists.
Best advice is to read alot of novels. I read a little bit everynight before bed.
