The hype as I can tell only exists because the film was completed, marketed and shown at some "Fest" or conventions and was very well received. Then a release date was given to it. I THINK it was supposed to come out Oct. 2007 then was bumped to FEB. 2008 and kept being bumped back supposedly because of something with distribution and the studios. So it's been stuck in limbo for what seems like forever and has been dangling in front of our faces. I was really excited to see it but have come to the realization that I may never be able to. I think some people feel the same way. I really hope it does get released so I can see if it's as good as some people claim it to be. Or it might just be another "Poughkeepsie Tapes" senario...EDIT:... I'd just also like to add that I have no true sources for the info there. All I know is what I've heard from various people. It may not be very accurate at all!
