Has anyone ever seen what the Turtles were like before they were turned into a fuzzy cartoon?

I\'m just surprised so many people like the cartoons and movies, when they were so scary and brutal before the cartoon came out.

yeah I\'d much rather the Turtles in a movie were portrayed like they were created in the original comic book before the cartoons.
Dark, gritty killers. That sh*t was harsh.
