i know i'm bumping a very old thread but if travsall happens to read this, was wondering what you think of the state of the yankees mid 2010 now, after reading our predictions from last year?

Well... the Yanks are now 63 - 35 after beating Cleveland tonight. Best record in baseball and should be well on their way to defend their title in this years playoffs.
I wanted Joba Chamberlain's role this year to be Rivera's set up man. I was pleased to see that come true, but he's totally stunk this year. Every darn time he comes in, he gives up 1, 2, 3 or even 4 runs it seems.
I'm disappointed that Matsui and Damon both left.... I thought bringing in Nick Johnson was a bad bad move. Now that he's on the disabled list, I'm actually happy to see him out of the line up. Don't miss him at all!
Only thing I'm a little worried about is possibly facing TEXAS in the 1st round. Now that they have Cliff Lee, the thought of going up against him twice in a 5 game series is scary.

    GO YANKEES!

Mid season we're lookin pretty nice for the most part, the pitching rotation is gettin a little scary though with Pettite on the DL, and the gas can that Burnett has been. I REALLY wanna see him gone, he's just done nothing for us, don't know if it's New York, or just him, but he needs to go. Joba too I'm sad to say, the organization ruined him. You can't take a pitcher and have him unsure of what his role on the team is, he was set as Mo's setup man, it was beautiful! I could even see him replacing Mo once the hammer hangs em up. But had to meddle, had to try him as a starter. To a pitcher, other then the closer, the starter is the prime gig, the big money, you can't take a young kid like Joba, fit him into a role he was perfect in, then basically say, okay kid, we're promoting you to a starter, just to see how that goes, then leave him out there for a year with no real decisions made weather he's staying there, or going back to the bullpen. Which is what happened and is basically a huge demotion, so now you've got a young guy unsure of his role, and freshly demoted who can't find his groove, it's gotta be a utter nightmare for him! He's doing us no good at all, everytime he goes to the mound it's scary, even with a big lead, all you have to do is look at him out there, his mannerisms, his face, to see he's a broken man. Gone is the enthusiasm and Clemmons like attitude, replace with a deer caught in the headlights, and major relief if he does get his 3. All the organizations fault. We gotta trade him, don't know to who, and we might get stuck with some of his salery, but he can't stay in New York and have a baseball career, new scenery, and a change of pace is what he needs and I hope he gets it. Second issue I touched on, Burnett. I don't care if we pay him to stay home get his hiney off the friggin field! He's a disaster, if he gets through 4 innings it's a miracle, he's completely inaccurate, and I really think he has no control of the ball out there. The big rumor mill news is we're getting Cliff Lee, hopefully this year by trade deadlines, and in that case, I don't wanna see Burnett start one post season game.

Another sad thing to say, Posada is not the catcher he used to be anymore, his defensive game is gone. Can't block the ball at all, has at least 1 or 2 past balls a game, and usually with men on. I would REALLY like to see him slide into the DH spot, and maybe as a back upto the back up catcher. Cervelli (sp?) has MORE then proven himself this year, and is one of the better catchers I've seen come along in a LONG time. His defense is phenominal, nothing gets by him, he's got a rocket launcher for an arm, can move real fast, and his bat is on fire. Do the same thing with him as they did with Posada and Girardi, would be ideal. He can be the next Posada too, catch for 16 years for us, he's great, and young. Then, with the young phenom catchers we have in AAA, bring the best of them up to back up Cervelli, and give him some rest now and then.

Girardi still isn't my favourite manager, I think lately he's been doing a little better at it, making some good moves, and sometimes looking like he knows what to do with the pitching staff, but I still think we can get a much better manager in there, this is the last season of his contract and there have been no talks to keep him on. Piniella is supposedly getting a front office job next season when he retires from managing the Cubs, maybe we can talk him into another year or two as manager? That'd be the ideal situation!!

The rest of the team is lookin pretty good, Tex has come around 110% on his slow start, A-Rod's hittin real well, Swisher keeps proving that All Star game slot was well earned, Cano's still making 2nd base look like the easiest thing in the world to do LOL Just gotta get Jeeter outta his slump, and maybe think about a new center fielder. I was sad to see Matsui go, it's complete crap they didn't give him what he was worth, his bat is missed. Damon was a sure thing to walk though, just the way things played out, we weren't gonna be using him in the outfield, and we were supposed to keep Matsui as a DH. Nick Johnson was surprised Nick Johnson was asked to come back. What the hell did we need that toad for? He's a very average at best first baseman, and a half hiney DH. I was glad he went on the DL too, I hope he stays there!
The series comin up with the Rays should be good, if we can get through that and be 5 or 6 games up on em, we'll be in GREAT shape!
