Any axe players on the forum own a Brian May Red Special guitar? It's my dream guitar, and was wondering if anyone else had one. Guild, Burns, etc.Prolly a long shot, but I'm bored and I figured I'd ask, lol

Hey Puck, I play Guitar everyday for the last 10 years but I dont own that particular Guitar. I believe that Brian Mays original was made by him and his father from a firepiece and they called it the firepiece if I'm not mistaken. Sweet Guitar, the replicas looks nice and are expensive. Are you going to go for one being a huge Queen fan? Take care,James. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" />

Did they just release a Brian May guitar, or are you talking about the older one? The music shop I go to had a Brian May guitar 10 years or so ago. It was pretty sweet.

Brian May has his own guitar line out now I believe.. not from Guild or that other British Guitar brand.Brian's original guitar, called the Red Special, was built by his father and him. The wood was from an 18th Century fireplace and I believe he and his father hand wound the pickups. I also heardthat the fireplace was struck by lightning. The tremolo was made from an old bicycle saddle bag carrier and the springs are valve springs from an old motorbike. He also uses coins (sixpence) instead of a pick. Man I love his sound!DaveChainsaw9

I've had the Burn's copy (which is now Brian May Guitars) as well as the Guild, and both were pretty cheesy guitars. The BEST replica out is made by RS guitars in Arizona, but they aren't cheap. Best thing to do is find a guitar you really like and wire the middle position out of phase. Instant Brian May tone.

Thanks for the info guys, but I actually already knew about his homemade guitar and such. Queen, (more specifically Brian May and Freddie Mercury) are an obsession of mine. The guitar neck was made from a piece of fire place, the body of the guitar was a solid piece of wood he hollowed out from a table top. The pickups, like Steve said, were burns. He had made his own on the previous guitar he owned. (a small sized spanish guitar). He found that winding wire around magnets would work. And like said before, the springs were off a motorbike, and the wammy bar was a piece of his mothers sewing needle. He said he may have been the first person to deliberately design a guitar to feedback. He said the closest way to explain what he meant is to feedback with the air almost. It took he and his father 2 years to design, and when he was finally finished, he had a friend offer his brand new Fender strat as a trade. Brian turned it down ofcourse. There are many Red Special replicas out there, as far as looks go, Guild has been the closest I've come across. While the Burns is nice, and is a signature released version, the design is a tad different that May's. Mainly in the roller section beneath the bridge.I was mainly asking if anyone had one on the forum before I purchased one. I was hoping maybe someone on here would be willing to sell. Thanks a lot guys!
