I loved this film, it was one of the first zombie films in my collection, and remains pretty solid in my top ten zombie flicks, despite it's weaknesses. It's less about zombies, and more about a magic tv set, but it kinda' forget's that about halfway through when they're suggesting that zombies won't attack or get angry unless something reminds them they're dead... Otherwise, the dead just try to carry on as normal. I thought that was a great idea regarding the Zombie mythos, but it wasn't strong enough to make much of an impact on the genre.I guess the writers were trying to do a zombie flick but didn't want to directly imitate anything... they must have sat back and said "ok, we want zombies, but where do the zombies come from, why are they here, and why aren't there just zillions of them?" and came up with the tv gimmick that they used to frame the storyline. It's bad.. but not nearly as bad as like Zombie Lake or Garden of the Dead.. Which means it's not AS fun in terms of making fun of it either. I feel like I've seen, or heard about the mask somewhere, but I can't for the life of me remember where.. I think I might have just run into that aborted attempt listed above.
