Hey, in preparation for the new movie (which I think looks good, I liked the Michael Bay produced TCM 2003), I went and got the original Amityville Horror at Wal-Mart for $10.00... I have never seen it before, but I did watch a show about the guy who shot his family before the Lutz\' moved in, and that was some pretty interesting stuff... However, I\'m not exactly sure I buy into all of the stuff surrounding the "haunting" of 412 Ocean Ave... Anyone else who knows more about it have anything to add??? I may pick up the book if it looks like an interesting enough read, and see if I think it\'s worth it or not... Anyone else???

P.S> I have just watched the extras on the DVD, not the actual movie it\'s self.

The people who supposedly survived the haunting later admitted it was a hoax.

That\'s right. I\'ve researched the Amityville story exhaustively, and I can assure you that it\'s completely false. You can look up plenty online, so I will only leave you with this:

The original Defeo murders, in which Ronnie Defeo murdered five (or was it six?) of his family members late one night in 1974, did actually occur. The legend says that he murdered his family in a period of insanity brought on by (cue sound fx) inexplicable weird events, i.e. voices... a pair of invisible/black hands handing him the rifle, etc... with the implication being that it had something to do with a curse in the Amityville House.

In reality, Ronnie Defeo was attempting to achieve an inheritance of life insurance, a fact that was later admitted by his laywer. Interested? Read more...

One warning: DISREGARD THE WARREN INVESTIGATION!!! It\'s completely fabricated. You can read it here:

Makes for a better movie if it\'s real, though... B)

I thought it was kinda funny that the dude who played George Lutz in the first movie thought it was all bogus... You know if the actor doesn\'t believe it, it\'s a load of crap... Makes for a pretty cool movie, though... The Pig outside the window was kinda funny...

haha....I also believe it\'s true. The original was a classic, and I doubt the remake can make up to it. Anybody have any good costume ideas to wear to it?

How can anyone believe something that was admitted to be a hoax? Ronald Defeo first stated that he was out when the murders hapened, then him and his lawyer dreamed up the haunted house scheme, then later he said he was in the basement shooting up when the murders happened.
I thought the original was a steaming load but the new one looks cool.

I always thought that they created the "voices" story so he could get off on Insanity, which is what he plead, and then they later admitted that he was just trying to hit up an insurance deal, or something...

I live about 20 min from the original house. I have heard many stories that the murders happend, but the house was not haunted. But i can\'t wait for the remake, looks pretty awesome.
