I got a suggestion..... I would take a x-acto knife scuff up the hems and various other parts and wash them and dry them several times. Then take some finely ground charcoal powder and dirty them up. The thing about charcoal powder is you can get your smudges and dirt spots the way you want them and if you do too much or don't like the way it looks.....simply it wipe off.....dry it and try again. This wouldn't be a good idea if you plan on washing your costume.Some people here use black shoe polish etc.....I like the charcoal approach. It's a little more of a controlled technique to me.
