Actually my friend Mike and I (both hardcore Terminator fans) would agree with these thoughts and feelings. What we're hoping for is a solid reason that makes these changes make sense and make for a solid story. Or we're both walking out of the theater. (I mean, c'mon - a "Transformer" and "Batman Bikes" now? Mike and I are a bit weary of that. But if there is a plausible story around it that doesn't feel like they've just ignored past stories completely then we're all for evolving ideas). We're assuming right now that it WILL be explained how things can change and still wind up with the T-800 leaving behind his chip and arm. We'll all just have to wait and see. The writers may not even reveal how the whole 6 stories can remain consistent as one big loop in time until the 6th story. No one knows right now how these stories will hold up.BUT . . Mike and I also agree that the sun doesn't necessarily rise and fall with Cameron at this point, despite him being the original creator. He even admits T3 was a great film and went in the RIGHT direction. For the hardcore fans of the first two films Judgement Day was stopped. But here T3 came along with a major CHANGE in the story and Judgment Day was now only postponed. Cameron HIMSELF stood behind this change in the story. The new script writers (John Brancato/Michael Ferris/Jonathan Nolanhave) knew going into this that they had to find a believable way to bring this story forward without stepping on the toes of the first three (or two, depending on the fan) films. They believe they have. All us T-Fans owe Cameron everything that's owed for anything Sci-Fi after he did The Terminator. There is still no better ending to a Sci-Fi film than the very end of the first film with Sarah driving off towards the desert storm coming in. Nothing will EVER beat that ending. NOTHING.But, I try not to be so rigid in my thinking that there has to be Cameron's famous blue lighting in every film or I'm gonna hate any new Terminator film that comes out. (One member a long time ago, when T3 first came out, said that, is why I brought that up and I'm not saying your being that way by any means and I understand that there's a big difference in lighting of scenes vs big changes in story. But the principal is the same). We limit ourselves and deprive ourselves of what normally could please us if we get too stubborn on just one aspect of the film not being to our liking. There are many ways this film could go wrong. But I'm gonna wait and see. I want to reserve judgment (Day) for now and just hope this film "makes sense". There are many things I've seen in the trailers that make this film look to be very cool as well.
