I've had my own face ripped off on forums before. I've only been in this community for about a year and a half and when I first got involved, I just had barely started getting into glove building. I didn't know the community. I didn't know the standards. I didn't know how to conduct myself around other glove builders. I figured these were just hobbies of people and I wasn't aware that they took it all so seriously. I remember whe I first got into glove building and was heavily into the experimental phase of my gloves... I asked publicly and privately for hints, tips, methods, etc to make my gloves look better. I didn't think that was such a big deal since again, I thought people did this for a hobby and wouldn't mind sharing their techniques to help a fellow newby. Turns out, it's a big no-no and I had my face ripped off several times for it. It seems that some experienced people seem to forget that newbies don't know that rules of conduct within some circles and instead of kindly advising them, they become irate and offended at the mere request for help. I kind of saw it as a form of sculpting... I see a lot of people posting photos or questions about sculpting (where to get tools, materials, techniques, etc) and I see information swapped freely. But glove-building seems to be in a world of its own and asking for help is typically completely off-limits. I have come to learn and understand this now and even though I now tell newbies that they must learn on their own, I've had those same people who chewed my face off for asking come back to chew it some more for telling the new person that they must learn how. Seems like some people have a double standard a double standard and I personally think it's unfortunate that some behave this way on these forums.
