Personally, I gave up on hobby/trend magazines awhile ago. It's all on the internet, or if it isn't NOW.. it will be. In fact there's dare I say, too much more info on the web.They need more exclusives (so there's not info from the web), and I think they're trying to focus on the obscure independent and Japanese stuff just because it's stuff you aren't likely to plug into your browser, and therefore haven't already scooped them. The magazine's used the movie industry to survive. It relies on it heavily, and the movie industry simply isn't "there" anymore. The internet has opened doors for the movie industry to take advantage of, with stuff like themed community sites, Myspace advertising, Banner ads, etc. They can have their own websites and stuff now... they don't need to create media hype, they need to create things for the people to get hyped about because they have become their own media outlets now. These days the larger movie companies feed the web media in-order to draw attention to their product. In the old days the sets were only open to a select few magazines/reporters.. pictures didn't "leak" onto the internet, all the fans didn't congregate where media folks could literally wander into a forum and "spill the beans" themselves or get their product talked about whenever they want to. Both during pre-production "check it out, we're on script #8" and a generic local casting call making the rounds. It used to be that they relied on magazines for that kind of exposure, and for us, if you wanted real info, you scoured the magazines for it... Now you simply type in the title of what you want, and blam.. there you go.. spoilers and everything.Movie companies now have own their own outlets, or utilize availible web-based ones without hassle or competition from other titles.As a result, the "exclusives" are from the indies which makes them more like "exclusive-because-no-one-else-returned-their-calls". If the magazines like Fango are going to survive, they're going to need to adapt, and offer us what the internet doesn't. Whether it's witty magazine commentary on sequel series as seen in overview, or simply tie-ins to get people to feel more involved with their favorite franchises. They need to process the information into new material rather than just regurgitate what the internet says.I dunno.. but that's why I don't run a magazine.
