@ Brunnen-G - Exactly man. Parents these days want to be a best friend to their kids opposed to a parent. Can\'t work that way. Some of the stuff I see out in public these days makes me physically ill. Why parents won\'t stop their kids and their bratty behavior from ruining their evening and everyone else around them is beyond me. It\'s like kids these days practically run the show based on how poorly they behave. Didn\'t work like that in my day.
@puck - Amen to that. My Dad took a belt to me, too. You always think about the whole "this hurts me more than it will hurt you" thing when you\'re a kid, and you can\'t help but be cynical about it and say "yeah, RIGHT" in your head. Once you get older, you understand just how true it is. And like you said, if I got the belt over something, I didn\'t dare chance repeating whatever got me in that position. Wasn\'t worth it. The model works, if it\'s done correctly. People just try to equate that to child abuse these days, which it\'s not. Reinforcing punishment as necessary isn\'t abuse. It worked just fine for generations. Now, all of a sudden, the world goes soft in the silliest ways. Some kids these days haven\'t even hit puberty yet and already they walk around with a sense of entitlement thanks to crappy parenting practices. What a world.
