@puck - I couldn\'t agree more with what you said. It\'s the straight-up truth. Taking fun stuff away, pep-talks - that kind of thing only goes so far to instill the right kind of message to kids when they are punished. Sometimes it takes more. As long as lines aren\'t crossed and a child isn\'t truly harmed in the process, there\'s nothing wrong with spankings and whatnot. Like you, I believe I grew up perfectly well-adjusted and capable of respected people properly and knowing my own place in this world. It didn\'t have a negative effect on me whatsoever. Sure, my rear-end hurt like hell when I acted up and got popped, but many times I asked for it and that was the point - to make sure I understood what I did was not acceptable if I went too far. Part of growing up is learning, and sometimes you have to do that the hard way.
@ IbDaT - I agree with you as well. Anything to remind these snotty brats that what they did was beyond inappropriate (especially for their age, as you pointed out) should be taken advantage of. It seems pretty possible that it was premeditated, so that makes it a billion times worse. To even think that they may have plotted it all out and took joy in that is incredibly sad and disturbing. You\'d think with all the limitless distractions and things kids can do with their time these days that something like this would\'ve never happened in such a way as it did. Guess not. Just another example of how modern technology can influence poor decisions in the wrong hands, especially if it\'s those of improperly-parented children.
