Silicone Molds?

I was just reading up on making some type of props (like some kind of sci-fi gun), such as sculpting it out of clay, but then casting it in something like "Monster-Cast" or "Por-A-Kast." I was reading that when using something like Monster-Cast it is best used with a "Silicone Mold." I\'m not that familiar with silicone molds, so if someone could just explain to me what is consists of, It\'d help me out a ton.
