There were really some good point's made in here, so I'll just elaborate on a few of them. One thing being is that you don't need to have a high number of mega pixels to have a great camera. Sure it helps but unless your printing pictures up to 8x10 and bigger you really do not need a 8-10 mega pixel camera. Also the mega pixels are good for when your doing a lot of cropping or digital zooming with the use of Photo Shop. A question that you have to ask your self is what your going to use your camera for? I assume that you want to have a good camera for taking pictures of your collection, and one thing for sure is that you don't need a Digital SLR for that, although the crappiest digital SLR is still better then your best Point & Shoot just cause of the full set of manual controls and your lens choices. With the right lighting and background you can make your camera's pictures look amazing. But for the most part I'd recommend a Canon S3 IS as well, it has a ton of great features such as manual controls, 10x Stabilized Zoom, rotating LCD screen and much more. And if you can spare and extra 300 I'd go for a Canon Rebel XT SLR, you'd never need another camera ever again. Here's some pictures that I have taken with my Digital SLR Nikon D50;
