Well, I went down to wal-mart, and all I could find was some rust-oleum black protective enamel. So, I bought some, then I went to radioshack and bought a soldering kit. Brought it all home, and got to work. I didn\'t have a brush or anything, because I thought it would look.....well....brushed on. So I just went all kindergarden on it and used my fingers. After that, I read the directions on the soldering iron, because I know exactly zero about soldering. But this was the final outcome. I was going for a part 4 look, only I wanted to go a bit further with it. The solder isn\'t sanded or anything, but I think it came out alright. What do you guys think, I really want to know! Thanks for looking.

wow man, nice job. just weather that solder now, and you\'ll have a cool 4. however, one thing.. it looks like it may come off easily, if it does, you might want to sand the area really good before applying more.

looks cool man. Now for the bad news?

that stuff is gonna flake off. Soldering irons are meant for melting solder into electrical wires, not for bonding metal to metal.

The reason your solder looks like that is because you had 401 degree molten solder on cold copper. As soon as it hits the cold copper, or you take the iron away, it cools down instantly. To get a metal to metal bond, you need both pieces of metal to be heated up. It\'s like using a soldering iron to try and solder the blades on, it would never work because it can\'t get the 2 metals hot enough.

Looks good man, just don\'t bump it, rub it, or even touch the solder or it\'ll probably come off.

however, what you CAN do to achieve the exact effect you\'r\'e looking for given what you have to work with. I\'d rub the solder off, then \'sculpture\' epoxy onto the metal into the shape that you want. The epoxy will bond bigtime and when it\'s dry you can carefully paint it silver. I know I guy who did this and he made a really nice looking part 4 glove.

Good luck man, just remember, soldering irons are for electrical work, blow torches are for metal bonding.

Excactly Bill.Blowtorch all the way.i learned myself that it\'s just as easy as keeping the flame small and holding it on the copper for a while,then just press the solder against it and voila.Easy as pie. Oh,and if you want the solder too shine,just get real soft sanding paper and carefully sand the solderspills.

just don\'t go putting heat on a finished glove. The expoxy method is the best method for what he\'s trying to do. Remember Antis 4 that he made? he used epoxy and it looked awesome.
