Need Help With Painting A Mask

OK so Painting a mask is nowhere near what I\'ve been doing with an airbrush so far.. alot more tricky.

I started my STARS blank and I need help. First off my flesh tone came out way off color I think. Second, I am getting speckled paint spray rather than a nice smooth coverage. I\'m not used to spraying latex so maybe I messed up.

I mixed 50/50 paint to model makers liquid latex mold builder. Then thinned it with windex till it was a like a thick milky consistency. It\'s just not covering well...

I put on a red undercoat before the flesh.. here are some pics. Please help me with any input you might have. I could use help on flesh tones too, how to mix them, what colors etc...
And lastly what do you use to get that wet looking finish on a mask? What is the best topcoat?

Maybe just a tad too pinkish, but that speckled look worked out pretty good. Looks good to me.

Definatley too pink. I was thinging of adding some yellow to the pink but I have no clue what color I\'d end up with...

maybe what you could do is take the paint off and look up somewhere on the net and find out what colors are best to use to make flesh tone if you don\'t have that color to work with . or maybe a mask maker can help you out in letting you know which colors work best . but i think you had a great start at it . can\'t wait to see this thing finished .

I\'m not an expert mask maker by any means, but when I was looking for flesh tone paint for airbrushing the king mask I made, here\'s what I did:

I picked up some acrylic colors from Michaels, specifically FolkArt #451 \'Cappuccino\'. About 95 cents for a bottle. I mixed 60% Monster Makers latex paint base, 20% color base, and 20% windex.

Also, milky consistency may be too thick which could be why your airbrush is not passing it well. Thin it out and keep testing it. You could also have too much air pressure going through the gun.

This is the resulting fleshtone color:



You can darken it with some darker brown acrylic (FolkArt #452 \'Burnt Umber\', or#944 \'Nutmeg\')

You know, I haven\'t had the experience of doing such detail work, so someone else will have to chime in on that. All the paints I mix have been the same formula, I just mix only what I need whether it be a small amount or a larger batch.

I did stick to thinning out the small amounts I intended to brush on as well, since I did not get a smooth finish leaving out the windex. It was clumpy with just latex base and acrylics. The thinner paints not only went through the airbrush properly, but brushed on much cleaner.

Looking at my color samples I did make a note that mine was a mixture of 451 and a little 944, the cappuccino alone was not dark enough.
