I dont believe in fate, but I have had things happen that seriously make me think twice.Still,I believe that everything happens because it happens, nothing is pre-decided.Doing a good deed will get you good karma, and vice versa,I believe that much. <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"Smile\" border=\"0\" alt=\"smile.gif\" />

alrighty....a topic after my own heart. While i wholeheartedly agree with everyones right to have their own opinions on this topic...i would like to share mine. I am a good person....because that is just who I am. I don't believe in Karma, "nice guys finish last", or any kind of religious subtext for that matter. I don't expect or want anything in return for being a nice person. If that is what you are looking for or expecting....than you weren't being all that nice in the first place. I am not about to try and keep some kind of karmic score card on all the good things i have done to see if i got something in return. I do what I do in life....because that is just what I do and who I am....i personally try to live by this little motto. Don't Count the Things You Do.....Do the Things That Count...TommyGreat topic martoch

I do what I gotta do. Maybe it's the whole being-a-15-year-old thing but I don't feel guilty for some things I do lol. I dont' go with the whole "good guy/bad guy" thing. maybe I AM an evil bastard lol. If I see that it'll benefit me, I do it. <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"laugh.gif\" />

I don't believe in supernatural explanations i.e. religious events etc. You have a conscience and when you do good things your conscience is clear, you're more likely to have good things happen to you. When you do bad things, you have it on your conscience, it weights you down, it impacts your life and you're less likely to reap any rewards of significance until you clear your conscience through good deeds, heartfelt apology or even punishment. As for "luck", if you put yourself in position for the things you want to happen , they will. If you sit in a room and wait for stuff it won't come knocking.

If so, how about if you found the $10 a week or month later...would it still be related to that kind act from the week or month prior? Is there a time limit to one good or bad event in your life relating back to a previous good or bad deed you may have done? What about if you did something "bad" one day and got a flat tire the next...was it because "what goes around comes around" or are do you consider them two completely unrelated events?I'm just curious to find out how many of you believe that "good" deeds will bring you good tidings, while "bad" deeds will bring you misfortune sooner or later. I personally have found that in my own life, doing good deeds doesn't cause any positive things to happen to me. However, I will continue to do as many good deeds as I can because it makes me feel good to do so...I don't expect great things in return, but it sure would be nice.Feel free to simply say yes/no or to post your own feelings on the issue...thanks!~Mikey<div align=\"right\"><a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=218651\"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><!--QuoteEnd</div><!--QuoteEEndHrm... Karma has always remained true for me. If I cause someone else pain, someone will most likely cause me a pain of similar intensity. If I try to look like a know-it-all when I haven't a leg to stand on, I eventually become ridiculed. If I break someone else's stuff, someone will probably (unintentionally or not) break something of mine. And MOST prominent, when I hurt someone's feelings or underestimate my love for something, I get hurt back and/or that person or thing is soon taken from me or something bad happens with it/them. The payback doesn't even have to be from the same source as my original instigation, but it WILL be equal in its damage to me. I also find - generally - that doing good things doesn't necessarily BRING good things unto me...or perhaps they're just a lot less noticeable than the bad things. I dunno for sure. Perhaps I never truly will.Good thread, though. Thanks for posting it!Cheers,Ryan

Wow, never thought we'd talk about Philosophy on NIGHTOWL.Karma is a concept in which explains causality through a system where beneficial effects are derived from past beneficial actions and harmful effects from past harmful actions, creating a system of actions and reactions throughout a person's reincarnated lives. The basic "Circle of Life" story.Karma" literally means "deed" or "act", and more broadly names the universal principle of cause and effect, action and reaction, which some believe governs all life. It is believed that only beings that can distinguish right from wrong, such as adult humans, who can accumulate Karma. Animals and young children are not considered to accumulate Karma as they are incapable of discriminating between right and wrong. However, all sentient beings can feel the effects of Karma, which are pleasure and pain. Karma is not fate; humans are believed to act with free will, creating their own destinies. According to the Vedas, if an individual sows goodness, he or she will reap goodness; if one sows evil, he or she will reap evil. Karma refers to the totality of mankind's actions and their concommitant reactions in current and previous lives, all of which determine the future. However, many karmas do not have an immediate effect; some accumulate and return unexpectedly in an individual's later lives. The conquest of karma is believed to lie in intelligent action and dispassionate reaction.Unkindness yields spoiled fruits, called papa, and good deeds bring forth sweet fruits, called punya. As one acts, so does he become: one becomes virtuous by virtuous action, and evil by evil action. So, Karma is much like religion, if you belive in it, then it does exist. The bible even metions Karma a couple of timesBig Grino not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A person reaps what he sows. (Gal. 6:7)All things whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.(Matthew 7:12)In fact, almost every mainstream religion teaches us about the consequences of our actions. The explanations may differ, but does it really matter in the end whether the law of karma causes us trouble or God himself in his final judgement? Watch your thoughts, for they become words.Watch your words, for they become actions.Watch your actions, for they become habits.Watch your habits, for they become character.Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.Just my two cents...

Bear...Are you seriously trying to make anyone believe that that's your own personal opinion that you formulated on your own? Because it's not. You pasted that entire first sentence, complete with slight additions of your own, from here: <a href=\"http://www.molly.com/2004/12/28/acts-of-god/\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.molly.com/2004/12/28/acts-of-god/</a> and it can be seen in the "March 7th, 2006 at 3:33AM" entry at the bottom of the page...You ALSO pasted the REST of your "two cents", minus the biblical quotes, from Wikipedia's Karma definition page, which can be viewed here: <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karma\" target=\"_blank\">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karma</a> in the "In the Dharmic Religions" section, beginning at the second paragraph. You copied word-for-word, but added your own little "inserts" to make the opinion seem more believable as your "own"....And make it harder to find your sources. The sole reason I found this is because it bothers me that you would try to make yourself look like a know-it-all in regards to something so individual and varied. Next time give your REAL opinion on the matter. This thread asks for your <b>personal</b> outlook on the philosophy, not just stolen ideas...Cheers,Ryan

Wow, looks like we need to step in the ring for a few rounds since it seems like when I post something you're always there ready to attaack me.I don't recall ever saying those were my words, they are in fact my beliefs, however, and posted what I read rather than typing the long drawn out description for myself. The words were never "stolen" as you put it merely posted to point out a view.As for my two cents, that is exactly what they are, you got a problem with it...you know where to find me.And I don't offer cheers!Barry
