Mask Care

So, much is said about mask care. Especially when a mask has been worn, clean inside with a damp cloth,then dry it,powder with corn starch etc. Very good, and essential of course, if you care for your mask. My question is, is any one making a cotton hood (liner mask).This would be worn inside the mask,it would add comfort and offer a protective barrier against the things that we produce that don,t do our masks any good. Sweat and Saliva are always mentioned, but what about our hair? Many of us treat our hair with alsorts of stuff, very little of which would be good to a mask, some of us have naturally oily hair, we all know what oil is to Latex. Now I,m no seamstress so couldn,t undertake this project, but I,m sure it would be worth it if someone did. Also a cotton hood would be nice for a styrofoam head, those of us that like to use them for displaying. So, what do you lot think? Maybe someone is making them anyway, but I,ve yet to see any. :ph34r:

Actually, there already something like that. My grandpa had this mask you had to wear at the steel mill. Thin and worked just like a hood. It would fit under a mask easily. I\'ll try and find out what they\'re called.

I\'ve always wondered about this, too. I\'ve searched for something like this a few weeks ago, and the only thing I could find was an Under Armor tactical hood. But, I dont think this would work because it\'s supposed to draw the sweat from your head for rapid evaporation. It sure would be nice to have something like this, so that you don\'t have to wipe and powder your mask after every time you put it on. :blink:

I used something like that by sirrus (sp?) it is for skiing or general outdoor liner/ layer. the way I see it it will block the oils and hair products. and it does pulll sweat away from the skin , but when it evaporates I assume it will be less harmful to the mask...if you put something to block the sweat it is just going to make you sweat more than you already are and the sweat will be pouring down your neck.

Well....I never thought of it since I don\'t wear any of my masks.....
but a good topic indeed.
Back in my days, we wore balaclavas.
Essentially, there\'re similar to ski hoods mentioned above.
They come in many materials for various purposes and climates.
You can see many firefighters wearing nomex ones.
They have inexpensive ones of thin cotton (t-shirt thin w/o any wicking properties) that would be ideal for wearing under a mask.

Well, I am a fan of the "not seeing any skin thru the holes" look when wearing a Hockey Mask, so I got myself one of those faceless hoods, and cut it down a bit, and wear it under my undermask.

It\'s a mesh in front, so I can see and breathe. I\'d LIKE to say it\'s cooler wearing it, but I really can\'t, unless it\'s majorly cool outside with a good breeze blowing, LoL but it DOES soak up the sweat pretty darn good all the same! Also makes tugging on or pulling off the undermask a heck of alot easier to do!
