Ebay's Fees Are Murder

I have not sold on eBay for the longest time.I listed an item which sold for $100 and I get invoiced by eBay for just over $9 on this one transaction.When I got my payment through Paypal I also was dinged again for another $4I can really see why people do not like to sell on eBay anymore. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yucky.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":yucky:\" border=\"0\" alt=\"yucky.gif\" />

Yes its to expensive, and unfair to sellers, with not much if any help available when things go south with buyers

Ebay has gotten to the point where I'll only buy and never sell on there. It's insane what they charge these days.

oh yeah and the worst part is that if your item doesn't sell and you go to relist it , that's not a free relisting anymore and they charge you again . <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"<_<\" border=\"0\" alt=\"dry.gif\" /> i really wish there was an easier way to sell my masks but that's the only one that i know of . mike,

No wonder everyone nowadays pulls their auction when they receive an offer to avoid the fees.

At the same time you are using a forum where your sale can be seen my millions of people and using their resources to make a sale. If you pawn a WWII gun you will only get a few hundred, but if you use eBay you are likely to get $2,500 or whatever. I've also noticed when I try and make sales on Craigslist and various forum classifieds I end up selling it for much less than I'd make on an eBay auction.For instance, I sold my 1987 Mongoose for $335 on eBay... I had it up on various BMX forums/classifieds and only got offers for $200 or so. So, eBay is useful and yeah the fees suck- sometimes it's worth the fee if you absolutely need to get rid of an item. More often than not, it's a sure sale- hard to say that here where I see the same things listed in the classifieds month after month.

I always factored the fees into my pricing, and figured everyone else would do the same. It's unfortunate overhead, but set your price as low as you feel comfortable with selling the item at, don't use reserve pricing, and set the duration of your auction based on how long it will be on the first four pages at the best times of the week for your product.Like with my products, I discovered (using the tracking stuff), that if I had an auction in for 10 days, it was not getting attention at all except on Friday, Sat, or Sunday. On a long auction, where I tried to use two weekends, the first one was usually a waste of time, unless I had a one-of-a-kind super-duper item that I knew was going to start a bidding war.If my competition has a buy it now.. so did I, undercutting by one dollar, or better yet.. undercutting on the shipping cost, unless there's other competitors and a quick moving market, at which point I just match the lowest one if I could.If it's not worth the cost of selling through Ebay because of the resultant price inflation, then obviously, it's not worth selling through Ebay. $10 may seem like a lot on $100, but unless it matches your profit margin, you're still making money or you simply need to start higher. It's the cost of hitting such a large market.

Ebay has monopolized online buying/ selling and they definitely know it.They could raise there fees to 25% of the final closing costs if they actually wanted to.The fees that Ebay/Paypal generate from sellers accepting Paypal payments must be an incredible profit.It is however a buyer's market on eBay with so many people giving their stuff away for such low prices.I love buying on their site but selling is in most cases not worth it. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":confused:\" border=\"0\" alt=\"confused.gif\" />
