I used Roma on the current mask i\'m finishing up but next time ill use wed. There\'s a certain way you need to work with wed before it becomes harder for detailing. I found it too soft when I used it too but I think i\'m ready for it again.

I use both to sculpture i prefer water based for quickness, but i have used plastilene a lot recently, i use WD40 to smooth it out, spray some in a cup and use a brush to smooth it, just go easy it does not take much to do it.

I am not sure, but did you mention what type of oil based clay you are using?
I am assuming it is either roma plastilina or monster makers. You should mention what one. The members here can suggest many methods of smoothing the clay.

    If Roma:
I used 90% alcohol and a stencil brush, use 99% if you can find it. It will \"melt\" the clay and leave it very smooth. Also, prior to that, use rake tools to knock down any larger bumps.

I like to chime in and act like I know what I am talking about

GB\'s lying. He sculpts with Bondo and BubbleGum. He just doesn\'t want to tell you his bubblegum smoothing secrets.
