I\'ve never bought anything from outside of the US and Canada... but just recently I bought my Gladiator helmet on eBay from the UK. No where in the auction did it state that I would have to pay Customs fees and today (3 weeks later) I get a bill from FedEX saying that I owe $41.00. Is this normal practice? Can someone shed a little more light on how this works? Thanks.

So far I\'ve just heard that UPS and FedEX charge everytime. Personally I think this is bullshit and it should have been mentioned in the auction.

After reading the bill it says I ower $36.90 for Customs Duty and $5.00 for an advancement fee whatever that is.

I\'m just wondering what I should do. The UK seller rarely responds when I email him. I\'m thinking of emailing him and complaining about the fact that he didn\'t list his method of shipping, nor did he bring to my attention that I would have to pay fees of any kind.

Ahh the good ole customs fees, yep quite a bitch! I didn\'t know the US charged any from overseas though, the helm must have been listed as merchandise, thus taxable, that is on the seller. We get em in Canada all the time, unless the item is specifically listed as a gift with a $10 or less value. Usually we gotta pay em before we can take ownership of the package, but I know my pop got a bill in the mail like you did from Fed Ex once. Ya pretty much do have to pay, not sure of the consequences, but could include siezure of the property, late fees, a minor lawsuit, or they might just hold any other packages for you until you pay. Either way, best bet is just to bite the bullet and hope the seller will be an upstanding guy. Sorry to hear that Chad.

Welcome to real life, lol. God I love custom fees!!!!!! UPS don\'t bullshit around with custom fees, they pay them right up front to stay completely out of trouble and while you end up with the shitty end of the stick there is absolutely NOTHING that you can do about it. So yeah, this is quite normal! It sucks the big one, especially the 5 bucks handling fee.

USE the mail and mark as a gift if your sending.. FED X and UPS are more expensive when it comes to fees...request that your package is sent via reg mail..cheaper..may take longer but cheaper!! and request..if they will do it??? that the customs form is checked as the item being a gift...thats what i do everytime!!! this may cost you a little bit more to get it shipped??? but worth it in the long run.
