Bad luck Steve but if i can throw my opinion in as a seller that ships all over the world regularly, communication is the key between seller and buyer.
You got to get the sellers to use a decent service and make sure they do, any seller charging you $30 for a 4-10 day service and then shipping out for a $10 should be ashamed of themselves and i think this can be a big problem with overseas deliveries, packages on less expensive shipping can take over 4 weeks to reach their destinations and people paying with paypal can apply for a refund for non delivery of their package from the seller within 45 days.
When i post out within the uk or ship world wide i now use a \'sign for service\' i don\'t cost much more and every time it gets to a depot or is handled by any postal worker THEY have to sign that they have handled it which stops packages being \'lost or damaged\'
When it reaches its destination it has to be signed for by the buyer so there\'s no \'it didn\'t get here\' b/s.
In my mind there is no point risking a cheaper shipping service, pay a few more $\'s and everyone is protected.
Sellers should always get a tracking number or signed for service when shipping overseas to protect themselves and to protect the customer.
Buyers should always ensure they get their shipping number or tracking number.
It seams like a load of hassle but i tell you from experience that as a seller sending a package out for it to get \'lost or damaged\' or not turn at up at all is heart breaking all the hard work for nothing, gone and possibly having to pay back the buyer as well and as a buyer having your package not turn up and trying to convince the seller your not trying to con him aint fun either!
Just remember if your going to ship, ship safe.
