I was watching the news the other day and they were discussing this topic, and cut to a Mayan indian sitting there at a picnic table, wearing a button down shirt and jeans. The on-scene reporter says "Well, I'm here with an actual Mayan descendant, and I have to ask you.. The fact that the Mayan calendar ends on this date is beleived by many to indicate that the mayans believed this would be the day that the world ends. Do you agree with this view?"mayan, "No.. it is just a calendar."Interviewer, "oh.. so no end of the world?"mayan, "All things end. The world will end one day, but not when a calendar tells it to. This is not the end of the world, just the end of this calendar."--There's been a lot of info that came out regarding the Mayan knowledge of astronomy, and it's been suggested that the Mayans had somehow determined when all the planets would line up, and therefore ended this calendar at that time, so that the new calandar would start "fresh".Personally, I think it should be noted that MY calendar runs out at the end of each year with no MAJOR calamity, and a New Years celebration. Perhaps this will be no different?
