I thought the movie had some great concepts mired in a crappy script that sort of picked up towards the latter half. From the beginning to about halfway through the film, it felt disjointed and rushed. I don't know if it was the way it was written, or if they had to cut down a lot for time's sakes, but it just had no flow or pacing at all. I'm hoping a lot had just been for their sake, because the writing blew a lot. The characters all hint at something that I felt could have been great. They all had the whole "secret past" thing going on, but it just wasn't explored to its full potential. A lot of the development with the characters felt way, way too rushed. It went literally from one, to the next, to the next that felt like a chunk of the movie was missing in between. It sort of got better in the second half when they started take a bit more time fleshing things out, but the ending just kinda fizzed out, which left me feeling somewhat disappointed. GOOD:Jackie Earl Haley. I was on the fence about how he looked and how he acted because he wasn't Robert. Well, he still isn't Robert, but that's okay. He was for me the only actually GREAT part of the movie. He throws in a few sneaky Robert-isms while having the character be somebody new, which I really liked. Some of his lines really leave you with a WTF impression because it's so twisted. I actually thought the actors for the most part were pretty well casted, except for Kris. The Rod clone of the movie I felt he really did try to do the role justice. The way it was edited though just kinda killed his character before freddy did (is this a spoiler? Rod died in the original so...) it was like having snippets of good acting. Without the whole context behind him, it just didn't come to life. I also felt Quentin was pretty good. He has a good delivery that made some of the cringe-worthy lines bearable. Nancy was also good. Also, great concepts. Things like micronaps and the consequence of sleep deprivation et al were great plot points. It really helped with the tension of the movie, and just gave it that sense of desperation. Also, as many others mentioned, the child molester freddy. Good stuff. BAD:The script. Too fcking terrible. I just cringed at some of the dialogues, and I'm the guy who can enjoy Yor: Hunter from the Future. Just... the lines were so badly done, it felt like a hackneyed sales pitch by old people trying to sound "hip". The script was just disjointed towards the beginning as well, as well as rushed. I just didn't care for the characters. The parents of the movie... I don't know if it's the lines they were given or what, but they were not developed at all. It was just frustrating to have them hint something only for it to not be explored to full potential. Plus, Nancy's mom reminded me too much of Sarah Palin and that bothered me too, because they both are (the character and sarah palin) do stupid Sheep. In fact, all of the parents bugged the hell out of me because they didn't do ANYTHING.
