Sink easily, just fill your mouth with water and dilute that is what I do. Sitting in the garbage is worse and more disgusting. Luckily I live alone. 
And I rarely ever have that happen unless I have a bad cold. Spitting it in dry garbage is more disgusting. But that is nothing, check out some of the videos online where like 6 girls spit smoke green/yellow/brown loogies all over a guys face and down his throat. So yeah it can get worse lol. Kinda hot actually when hot chics do it lol.
