The PS3 is a great dvd upscaler, but if you want to buy a dvd playeri think Toshiba XD-E500 is a good choice.http://whathifi.com/Review/Toshiba-XD-E500/

They also upscale to 1080p through HDMI.

My only suggestion is if you are going to get an upconverting DVD player, don't cheap out on the HDMI cable.Get the best cable you can, not the cheapest. Sometimes the cable costs even more than the unit itself.Good cables make a huge difference!! <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" /> -Justin

I work in the eletronics field and believe me your not getting upscale to 1080p on regular dvd's,through your blu ray player. 720P tops in progressive scan mode 1080I in interlaced upscaling. It upconverts to NEAR hd quality. Do your self a favor and just buy a blu ray player and don't waste your time and money with a upsale converter player.

There was study done using lamp cord for speaker wire and it outperformed expenisve wire that costs 10x as much.I would recommend monoprice.com for wiring and checking out the extensive forums over at avsforum.com for any of your HT questions or interests.

That's where I got my cables from and they work like a charm. I think there was an actual study over at AVS and the cables from Mono Price outperformed the expensive MONSTER cables you see in Best Buy for like $100.

I can only speak from my own experience. I'm not one to be sold by salespeople at any store.I used cheap cables at first and the picture quality wasn't near what I expected. The Blacks especially and also gradients were very blocky. I bought better cables and no longer have that problem.Maybe the first cables I bought were "too cheap", IDK. But better cables gave me better quality.Again, just my own experience.-Justin
