anyone else think that 2018 is too soon for this movie to seem plausible?

Check out this article I saw recently though....February 20th, 2009 The Terminator scenario: Perhaps not so fictional after allPosted by Larry Dignan @ 11:01 amCategories: General, Government, Hardware Infrastructure, InnovationTags: Military Robot, Robots, Emerging Technologies, Larry Dignan32 TalkBacksPrintEmailThumbs UpThumbs Down+1315Sometime in the future–Military robots have joined forces and are targeting humans using Google Latitude. Tribes of robots have banded together in various metropolitan areas. Early reports indicate a programming malfunction. Sounds like Terminator doesn’t it? It could be real life some day if we don’t get our robot programming ducks in a row. Military robots need to be taught warrior code and ethics or the world could be in for a world of hurt, according to a report. That conclusion was included in a big report by Cal Poly researchers for the U.S. Department of Navy, Office of Naval Research. The report, which was detailed in a Times Online story on Feb. 16, contains a few interesting passages to ponder ahead of the weekend. According to the report:The use of military robots represents a new era in warfare, perhaps more so than crossbows, airplanes, nuclear weapons, and other innovations have previously. Robots are not merely another asset in the military toolbox, but they are meant to also replace human soldiers, especially in ‘dull, dirty, and dangerous’ jobs. As such, they raise novel ethical and social questions that we should confront as far in advance as possible—particularly before irrational public fears or accidents arising from military robotics derail research progress and national security interestsRest can be found here...<a href=\"http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=13223\" target=\"_blank\">http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=13223</a>

But to have a 5 story tall robot which looks much more agile and destructive than any Hunter Killer. 5 story tall robots walking around in 2018, but then Hunter Killers rolling around in 2029, thats one reason this movie sucks to me already <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/down.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"down.gif\" />

If I have the ideas presented in all the T4 movie trailers we've seen so far correctly then, I believe what is happening in T4 is a new and different immediate future which means you are to ignore now what you saw in the first two films as happening in the distant future. Something has changed and a result has allowed Skynet to get the upper hand earlier on now with newer better tech than the previous alternate futures in the past films. This means any look into 2029 is going to be different than before (we have not had a look into this new 2029 yet - for all we know there would be no Hunter/Killers at all by then) and thus, not inconsistent - no reason to "pre-hate" this movie then on those grounds. It's actually a very intriguing new concept. What does bother me a little bit is, after seeing this latest trailer it all looks like this new Terminator Trilogy is going to be based on an already used concept and because of that might not be as exciting as I first hoped if this new twist is based on that recycled idea. I speak of the remade Battlestar Galactica tv series where the Cylons have made themselves into human beings and to try and take over and replace the human race with the least amount of damage to themselves (helping assure their success even more) by inserting these latest model Cylons into the remaining surviving human populace with them not even being aware that they are Cylons themselves.Again it's a great concept but it's been done already and I hope this new trilogy isn't going to be dependent on this as their main new story twist.

To ignore the first two movies and their respective futures, is to ignore the brilliance Cameron and Wisher set in place...then again that started with T3ROTM and looks to be continuing with these new installments. Without T3ROTM coming along and setting it's own rules for it's time line and future, how could the gear/cog severed Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 T-800 arm left in the steel mill at the end of T2, cause such a drastic change in the future??? To where they end up with the specific future and the specific machines shown in the new film!
