Otty Sanchez, a 33-year-old Texas woman, is under police guard in hospital charged with capital murder after decapitating her newborn baby and eating parts of it before slashing herself.San Antonio police said Sanchez was “covered in blood and screaming ‘I killed my baby, I want to die’” when police arrived at the home she was sharing with her mother and sister.Police spokesman Joe Rios said Sanchez claimed “someone or something told her to do it and she was hearing voices, so that leads us to believe she was experiencing some kind of mental crisis”.Police said Sanchez had separated from the baby’s father about a week earlier, after having given birth to a son on June 30.Sanchez was discovered holding the decapitated baby by her mother on Sunday morning and according to Rios, appeared to have ingested parts of her child – including the brain – after attacking him with a knife.Sanchez’s sister’s two children, aged five and seven were reported to have been in the house at the time of the murder, but were not harmed.Sanchez’s aunt, Gloria, said her niece has been “in and out” of a psychiatric ward previously. “Otty didn’t mean to do that. She was not in her right mind,” she said.
