Everyone hear loves Halloween, or if not, your in the wrong hobby. Anyway, I can't wait to decorate this year. We have several very nice tombstones and at least 6 life size characters. These items are expensive and very attractive to those that like to steal Halloween decor. Anyone have any tips on securing these items so I can put them out before Halloween? Also, when do you usually begin putting up your decor and when does your nice stuff go out / in.

I usually don't put out any displays worth stealing, but I think I would either put the stuff up when I wasn't around or maybe get creative and make some sort of "cage" set up where the life-size figures are chained down inside of a cage where someone couldn't get into them. The only thing you have to worry about then would be vandalism. I guess a lot of it depends on the area you live in.Anyway, definitely post up pics of the display you come up with...we'd all love to see it!

At my friend's Halloween set up we have used metal hangers / thick wire curved them in a " V " and hammered them in the ground over the life sized feet. This keeps the mannequin from blowing over and makes it hard to pick up/ steal. He puts most of his set up out at 4pm and keeps a close eye on everything.

We have a dog chained in the yard and place the decorations within the length of his chain. Trick or treaters can come to our front door but the ones who try to get in our yard will be chased away. I have to hang the stuff from our tree or put them near the walls of my house to avoid Fido from knocking them over though.

Coat any non latex item with a thick layer of Vaseline Wink ! Strategically place dog / cat poo around your items. Also create trip wires around the more expensive decorations. These tips may not help your decor from being stolen, but it won't make it a day in the park for the thieves <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"tongue.gif\" /> .
